Teaching the Word. Touching the Soul. Transforming the Life.

Blessings to you,

One of my favorite authors—Brene’ Brown—who has written some great material stated the following: “If we want greater clarity in our purpose or deeper and more meaningful spiritual lives, vulnerability is the path.” That is, for those of us who are truly seeking God, and for those who thirst for God’s wisdom, discernment, and guidance, the increase we seek demands that we become vulnerable, or shall I say, we submit our will to the will of God. To live in our God defined purpose, as Brown suggests, there are experiences, challenges, setbacks, roadblocks and more, that we must not only learn from, but through each circumstance, we use them as ingredients that lead to Spiritual development and purpose defining.

Someone once wrote: “The purpose of life is a life of purpose.” Though I don’t disagree with this statement, I would modify it by stating that the purpose of life is to fulfill the purpose for which God created us. As God had a purpose for Jeremiah when God told him “I know the plans I have for you…” likewise God has a specific plan/purpose for each of us to fulfill. What we must remember though—despite the torrents of life’s often turbulent experiences—is that we both learn from them, as they are the instruments that help orchestrate and clarify our purpose for being.

This is what we want to talk about on Sunday; living in purpose. In preparation for Sunday’s message, please “STUDYRomans 8:18-28. In this letter of Paul to the Church of Rome, there is much to learn. I pray to see you on Sunday.

Peace,

Bishop Dr. Mark W. Thompson

Claudette A. Colvin: She remained seated!

Every American child learns the story of Rosa Parks. On December 1, 1955, she was arrested in Montgomery, Alabama, for refusing to give up her seat on a segregated city bus to a white passenger. Her quiet act of resistance sparked the Montgomery Bus Boycott, a 381-day protest that helped ignite the Civil Rights Movement and forever changed the course of American history. Yet nine months before Parks made her stand, another young woman had already done the same thing. Her name was Claudette Colvin, and she was only fifteen years old. While history would later elevate Parks as the symbol of the movement, Colvin’s courage came first—an act of defiance by a teenager who refused to surrender her dignity and unknowingly helped set the stage for one of the most transformative movements in American history.
