Grace Be Unto You,

Today, I want to share with you another Psalm for your meditation. The Psalmist points to one profoundly relevant and necessary gift that God has purposed; the call for unity. Unity is and always shall be God’s desire for a people deeply in need of peace. As Hans Balthasar once wrote: “Even if a unity of faith is not possible, a unity of love is.”

When you read Psalm 131—just three short verses—both Balthasar and the Psalmist remind us about the fragrant spiritual aroma that takes place when people purpose to love one another, despite their differences.

Psalm 133:

How very good and pleasant it is when kindred live together in unity!

It is like the precious oil on the head, running down upon the beard, on the beard of Aaron, running down over the collar of his robes.

It is like the dew of Hermon, which falls on the mountains of Zion. For there the LORD ordained his blessing, life forevermore.

As the song writer wrote a few years ago; “Let’s Stay Together.”

Peace,

Steadfast, Immovable, Excelling in the LORD

Bishop Mark W. Thompson, Sr. Pastor

Reverend C. T. Walker: A Legacy of Faith, Leadership, and Service

Greatness is not defined by where we begin in life, but by the courage, faith, and determination we demonstrate along the journey and the difference we make in the lives of others. Reverend Charles Thomas (C. T.) Walker embodied this truth. Born into slavery in 1858, he rose above extraordinary adversity to become one of the most influential African American religious leaders of his time.

Guided by an unwavering faith in God and a deep commitment to serving humanity, Reverend Walker transformed obstacles into opportunities and used his voice to inspire hope, advance education, and uplift communities. His vision extended far beyond the pulpit. Through his leadership at Tabernacle Baptist Church in Augusta, Georgia, his advocacy for education, and his efforts to establish an African American branch of the Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA) in Harlem, New York, he created opportunities for young people to develop their character, strengthen their leadership abilities, and pursue brighter futures.

Reverend Walker understood that true leadership was not measured by titles or personal recognition, but by the lives we touch, the doors we open, and the opportunities we create for others. His remarkable journey from slavery to national prominence reminds us that our beginnings do not determine our destiny, and a life rooted in faith, guided by purpose, and dedicated to service can leave a legacy that inspires generations yet to come.
