From The Pastor's Desk:
Easter - Our Resurrection Promise
Easter is a day filled with meaning, and, sometimes, folks can lose sight of its dimensions. So much has become wrapped up in its celebration that, I think, Easter for many folks becomes more a cultural event than a faith event. Sorta like Christmas, you know? Let’s see - bunnies and candy, baskets and stuffed animals, family gatherings and decorated eggs hidden around the house. Oh, and everyone gets dressed up for church. Yep. Definitely like Christmas.
I am not, however, saying these are bad things in and of themselves. But…the fact is that Easter Day is actually like a funeral, that’s what sometimes gets lost. When we don’t remember the events that usher in Easter, we lose a lot of the power of the resurrection. Good Friday is a day of mourning, a reliving of the pain and injustice of the crucifixion. Even though we know the rest of the story - Good Friday and the vigil remind us of the fragility of life, and our deep need for hope. We need to remember the promise we have in the Messiah, the one sent to save and restore us, just as God saves and restores the Son.
Easter Day, Resurrection Sunday, is the end of a story with a BIG surprise! The tomb is open; the one we grieve is alive, Alleluia! The promise has been kept, and not just for Jesus but for all of us. And, because God’s promises are true and are kept, a new story begins. Just as Jesus is alive, we are given new life as well! The future is opened to us to live as God’s people, and that is what we are! We have been redeemed and renewed to live with meaning and hope for all that lies ahead of us.
So, yes brothers and sisters, it’s ok to hide the Easter eggs for the children. Go ahead and delight in the baskets with plastic grass - jelly beans and chocolates on top. Gather with the family and celebrate God’s goodness. And, remember the story of God’s great love for you and for the entire world. Then give thanks, and tell the story!
Alleluia! Christ is risen indeed! Alleluia!
Pastor Barry

Fellow Congregants:
Your Call Committee is continuing to work on your behalf, and now has some significant progress to report.
We have met a second time with our candidate and we all agreed that this candidate would be a good leader for Lord of Life. Accordingly, we asked the candidate if he/she would like to continue the process and meet with the full church Council. The candidate agreed, and we are now working together to determine the date of this meeting.
At this meeting the candidate will meet with the Council, the Call Committee, and a representative of the Bishop. The Council members will interview the candidate and also settle with the candidate on a compensation package. The candidate will leave the room, and the Council will vote on whether they want to recommend this candidate, with the compensation package, to the congregation. If so, they will schedule a Sunday for the candidate to come to Lord of Life, lead worship, and preach. Immediately following that service, the Bishop’s assistant will convene a meeting, and the congregation will vote on whether they want that candidate to become the next pastor of Lord of Life.
We are excited about the opportunity this presents for Lord of Life, but we caution that this does not guarantee that this candidate will become the next pastor of our congregation. The candidate may withdraw from the process at any time, for any reason. Additionally, the Council must also accept the candidate and agree with the candidate on the compensation package. So there are several steps ahead of us, but we are hopeful and excited!
As before, all of the personal details about the candidate remain confidential. The candidate’s name will not be revealed to you until the Sunday he/she comes to preach. This is required by Synod rules, and serves to protect both the candidate and Lord of Life from any rumors or false information that could circulate.
Led by the Holy Spirit, we continue faithfully in our work to find the next pastoral leader of Lord of Life. Please continue to keep the Call Committee, the Council, and our candidate in your prayers.
Peace,
Ed Hourihan

Social Ministry Lenten Outreach Project:
Operation:
“What You Can’t Buy”
Ending Sunday, April 12th
We know you can’t buy love, but we certainly know that we can love our neighbors by buying things that are needed. Did you know that SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) food benefits do not cover household items and personal care products? During Lent we are focusing on helping the Christian Caring Center stock their shelves to provide these items for our neighbors in need. Here’s what you can buy and share your love during this special time of sacrificial giving:
Cleaning supplies, Lysol, laundry supplies, bleach (not huge sizes)
Hygiene & feminine hygiene products, Depends, toilet paper (large & small sizes)
Laundry sheets and pods are good as they are easier to transport to a laundromat (not too large sized liquid bottles)
Items can be left in the labeled container, shown in the photo below, in the church entryway. Thanks to all in advance for your generosity!
If you have any questions, please contact Sue Dreisbach.

Air Conditioner Replacement Campaign Update:
We have some good news to share regarding the Air Conditioning Campaign. As of mid-March 2026, we have now exceeded our goal of $18,000! It has been almost two years since this campaign started.
THANK YOU! WE DID IT!
Our property team is now working with the vendor to schedule the work on
the fourth unit (and last in this plan) to be completed.

Storm Damaged Awning Removed:
Winter Storm Hernando brought heavy snow which caused the awning over the side emergency exit door in the Sanctuary to collapse. Keith Lerner organized a work crew of church members Judy Lerner, Tom Tait, and Jim Cuviello who removed the awning. The doorway, next to the AV computer area is now clear to use.
| | |
Storm Damaged Trees And Branches Removed:
Winter Storm Hernando also damaged several smaller trees at the back of the parking lot. Keith Lerner along with Carolyn and Jim Cuviello removed some and trimmed others. Additional tree debris was removed from around the church property.
| | |
Dead Trees Cut Down:
Two large, dead pine trees in the parking lot area were cut down. One was dangerously close to the shed and the other was on the parking lot divider which was closest to the church building. Both presented a potential hazzard. Thank you Keith Lerner for coordinating the tree removal.

Fellowship Hall HVAC:
New Fellowship Hall Heating Procedures
When changing the thermostat setting in Fellowship Hall to the higher "occupied" setting, you probably have noticed that the room is slow to warm up. Property Ministry head, Craig Baechler, has consulted with our HVAC company and is trying out a new procedure which should speed up the change of the room's temperature.
After you increase the temperature setting on the thermostat, turn on the ceiling fans. They have been set to send the warmer air in the ceiling downward which helps to distribute the newly heated air entering the room. We have also changed the fan setting on the air handler. When leaving Fellowship Hall after using it, lower the temperature setting on the thermostat to 62 degrees and turn off the ceiling fans. Do not change any other settings.

April Health Focus:
Seasonal Allergies
As spring arrives, many people begin to experience seasonal allergies, also known as allergic rhinitis. Pollen from trees, grasses, and flowers can trigger symptoms such as sneezing, congestion, itchy eyes, and fatigue.
This April, we are reminded to care for our bodies as part of our overall wellness. Simple steps like limiting outdoor exposure on high-pollen days, keeping windows closed, staying well-hydrated, and using antihistamines when needed. All of this can help manage symptoms and bring greater daily comfort.
Let us continue walking together in faith and wellness, taking small but meaningful steps to support our health while trusting God through every season.
Be sure to visit our Stepping Stones to Health display in the Fellowship Hall throughout the month of April for helpful information on managing spring allergies. You may also speak to one of our members, including Joan Molnar, Lu Hourihan, Janell Reich, Heather Cosper, Barbara Ma, or Cynthia Tait for information. Let us know the health topics that you would like as a focus in future months.

Strong Bones And Balance Fitness Classes
Together we can improve our health and wellness through movement and exercise. These classes are free and open to all adults, so bring a friend and join us! The next sessions will be held at the church in Fellowship Hall on Tuesdays, April 7th and 21st at 3:00 PM.

April Update
We are excited to share what’s happening this month at Grace Place Preschool! Our students have been learning with Ms. Donna Yates about the beautiful stories of Easter. Thank You
Church Members!
Thrivent has reported that Lord of Life received $858 from them in 2025 though its Choice Dollars program. Members of Lord of Life, who have certain Thrivent accounts, receive "Choice Dollars," from Thrivent, as part of their membership. This program is a benefit to the member and does not cost them anything. It is a Thrivent outreach program.
Church members can then "direct" (donate) those dollars to a charity recognized by Thrivent. Lord of Life is one of those available to receive your Choice Dollars.
Thanks to all our church members who directed their Choice Dollars to Lord of Life!

Quilt Ministry
The next meeting is on Thursday, April 16th, from 10:00 AM until noon. It will be a "Quilt Ministry Work Day." This meeting will focus on assembling quilts. We will put the 3 quilt layers together, pin and sew the edges, and finish by hand tying them. They are all easy tasks, and there is something for everyone to do!
Our quilters make quilts which are donated to Lutheran World Relief. Both experienced and non-experienced sewers can join us! There is a job for all skill levels.
