Church Council Announces New
Mission Statement
In 2024, a lot of time was spent determining who we, the members of Lord of Life, are. This was needed as we prepared to begin our search for a new full time pastor. Different themes revealed themselves over and over. This in turn led to discovering the Four Core Values of Lord of Life. These core values were broadcast to everyone in November with one value being discussed each weekend. Those core values are: Joyful Worship, Making Disciples For Christ, Compassion For Those In Need, and Care And Nurture Of The Congregation. These discoveries led to creating a new Mission Statement for Lord of Life. The guides used during our discovery process suggested that meaningful mission statements should be eight words or less. After discussion and debate, your church council decided upon these eight words to describe what is happening at Lord of Life,
“Joyfully Reaching Out In Love As God's People.”
We pray that these eight words will guide us to discover a full time pastor. We pray that these words continue to drive us to do all the loving things that happen at Lord of Life.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Our New Business Card Is Now In Use!
The front of the card features our new Mission Statement and the back has QR codes that can be used to access our church website, Facebook page, and YouTube page. One other will allow you to email the church office.
A card will be sent to church members as an enclosure with their offering statement for 2024 in an upcoming mailing. If you want additional cards to pass along to prospective new members, they will be available at the church.
Pastoral Call Update
On December 9th, your Church Council and Call Committee met with NJ Synod Bishop Tracie Bartholomew to review Lord of Life's Ministry Site Profile (MSP).In general, she was happy with the document's contents but suggested one edit. The edit was performed, and, on December 10th, our MSP was posted to the ELCA website for pastoral candidates to review.
This process is not like a line at the deli counter. We don't “wait our turn.” We have to wait for the right person to come our way. That could take a few weeks, or it could take months. We will need to pray for the process and our Call Committee members, and pray that God brings the right person to us.
Four Core Values
Of
Lord Of Life
Each weekend in November we spent time discussing the core values of Lord of Life. If you missed any of those weekend worship services, you may view this 22 minute YouTube video which talks about all four of our core values.
Air Conditioning Campaign:
Contract Signed
Another Unit To Be Replaced!
In December 2024, the church signed paperwork to replace the air conditioner on the piano-side of the sanctuary. The contractor visited the church shortly thereafter to re-measure things to double check his previous findings. The Air Conditioner Fund, with over $26,000 contributed to date, contains enough money to allow this work to proceed.
There are still two additional air conditioners that need to be replaced. Yet, this work cannot proceed until additional contributions are added to the fund. Our goal for the Air Conditioner Fund is $50,000. Based on information supplied by the recent Estimate of Sharing (EOS) cards, our goal is achievable. The sooner the money arrives, the sooner work can begin. Thank you to all who have in the past and will in the future contribute to this fund!
| |
|
Stewardship Reminder:
Estimate Of Sharing Cards (EOS)
Thanks to everyone who returned their EOS cards! We still have a number of cards outstanding. If you have not as yet returned your EOS card, please do so no later than this coming Sunday, January 5th! They can be placed in the "Heart Box" in the Narthex.
January Is Pictorial Directory Month At Lord Of Life!
As was announced in last month’s LifeLines, Lord of Life has a digital pictorial directory in place. Our last photo directory was created in 2018, and a lot has changed since then. A new directory will be helpful in allowing members of the congregation to recognize and know each other. Of course, this updated directory will be helpful for the Pastor and Lord of Life staff to match a name and a face.
Here is a sample of what we have:
| |
Notice how more appealing this looks when photos are included.
But WE NEED A CURRENT PHOTO of YOU and your family to make this work! There will be NO third-party vendors associated with this directory project. You get to submit the photo that you already have! Or our Pictorial Directory Team will take a photo of you while you are at church.
Our new pictorial directory will be electronic with an option to create a printout. This means that you can submit an updated photo to the directory anytime you change your hairstyle!
As an added bonus, you may place the photo directory onto your own cell phone FREE OF CHARGE. This means that you will see any newly submitted photos immediately on your phone! There are other convenience features available only on the cell phone. The team will send out instructions for placing the photo directory on your cell phone. Alternatively, the Pictorial Directory Team can assist you with the installation of the directory onto your phone.
Again, WE NEED A CURRENT PHOTO of YOU and your family to make this work! If you have a digital photo available, simply email it to PHOTOS@LordLife.us A link is provided below to that email address. Please make sure that the photo shows your faces. Close-ups like in the example above are desired. Our Pictorial Directory Team will be available get your photo into the directory during the first three weekends of January 2025.
Watch For A Special Edition Of LifeLines On Saturday, January 4th Which Will Have More Information And Instructions To Get Access To The New Directory!
From The Church Council And President Bill Reich:
There were many funerals at Lord of Life in 2024. Let's take a moment to say "Thank You" to the people that make the receptions happen after the services. The efforts of these people support the thoughts that Lord of Life is a warm and loving place. Thank you to: Barbara Ma, Sheri Perkins, Penny Miller, Barbara Wagner, and Julie Scott.
Organ Update
As you have heard in recent weeks, our newly acquired Allen organ is now fully installed and operational. Thank you to everyone who donated to make the dream a reality. The congregation was also awarded a $1,500 grant from the Association of Lutheran Church Musicians (ALCM) to help complete the project.
From all of us: Thanks to Rick Krause for all of his work with the organ project and for applying for the grant. He was also able to get some choir music and other items from the same church where the organ was located without any cost to our church.
Puzzle Exchange
January 4th – March 2nd
The Puzzle Exchange was a big hit in 2024 and will return again in 2025 beginning Saturday, January 4th. We will use the same table as last year in Fellowship Hall. It will include puzzles of all sizes and for all ages. People are encouraged to drop off puzzles and take some home, too. There is no cost to participate, and you do not have to add a puzzle to take one or more, but you can return the puzzle after you have completed it so that others can enjoy it too. If you donate a puzzle to our exchange, we just ask that they be in good condition and have no missing pieces. At the end of the exchange, leftover puzzles will be donated to one or more of our outreach ministries.
You're Invited!
How You Can Help!
As a congregation member, did you know that you are the best force for bringing new members into our church community? We have come up with an invitation program in which you can be a part.
We have "Invitation Cards" available that you are encouraged to pick up and give to friends and neighbors with children who do not have a church home or are seeking a different one. All you need to do is to hand the invitation to them and tell them about our church and youth programs. This kind of outreach by you will certainly make a difference to bring them into our church family.
(Breanne has the invitations. See her to pick up as many as you like.)
A Christmas Greeting From A Friend:
“Old “ Friends!!!!
It was with joy that I read the LOL Christmas message from pastor Barry. As a previous member of LOL, I remember many Christmas celebrations and wonderful holiday events.
May God continue to bring joy and togetherness to the LOL family and may you continue to serve the Tabernacle area in many ways.
An “old” pastor!
