From The Pastor's Desk:
Giving As Jesus Gives
As we look ahead, autumn is upon us and soon the end of 2025. Watching the leaves fall and the natural world preparing for winter sleep, make it a good time to think about what lies beyond. I already think about the spring that will most certainly come, making plans for next summer. The church staff is already planning well into 2026: plans for ministry, and for the growth of the congregation in both numbers and faith.
November is the time for us to look around in our lives and count our blessings. Honestly, once I start doing so, it’s soon overwhelming to realize just how deeply I have been blessed. The people in my life and the love we share, my health, my ability to enjoy life and to serve at Lord of Life Church, and so much more. Sincerely, the blessings of abundance from God that make it possible for Julie and I to share as we give financially to support, and grow, the ministry of the church - well, it’s truly a privilege!
I take as my model the gift God gives to us in our Lord Jesus Christ. In God’s generous love we have been given – in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus – the abundance of forgiveness, life, and eternal hope. We cannot discount such gifts for they make richer every day, every relationship, every experience.
In Jesus, God gave to us freely and abundantly. We see all this at Lord of Life in our mission as we are “Joyfully reaching out in love as God’s people”. How do we live out that mission? We see them in our Core Values, in our:
Care and Nurture of the Congregation, Compassion for Those in Need, Making Disciples for Christ, and Joyful Worship
At the end of November, before Advent begins our preparation for the coming of Christ, I will ask you to reflect on your abundance in life. How have you experienced God’s blessings in life? As we prepare for the coming year, and the calling of a full-time pastor to lead and serve with us, I will ask you to prayerfully and faithfully respond with the generosity God places upon your heart. I ask you to make a commitment to give back to God through your gifts to the church. How will you serve? How will you use your abilities? How will you give financially?
I will be doing the same along with you. God, who gives us the will to do these things, will also give us the power to do them!
Together, we are “Joyfully Reaching Out In Love As God’s People!”
Pastor Barry Scott

2026 Stewardship Campaign Begins!
The 2026 Stewardship Campaign is now underway. All congregation members should have received a mailing with a letter explaining the campaign, an Estimate Of Sharing Card (EOS), and a return envelope.
Prayerfully consider what your monitary support of Lord of Life will be in 2026 and complete the EOS card. Then return the EOS card to the church either by placing it into the the EOS card return "heart box" in the Narthex or by mailing it back. Whether you can or cannot make a monetary estimate of sharing at this time, please return your EOS card.
It is vital for planning our 2026 spending plan that all EOS cards be at the church no later than Sunday, November 23rd.

We will tour SCI’s Port Newark facility, learn about their ministry to seamen, and take a 20-minute bus tour of the port. Due to the size of SCI’s tour van, we are limited to 12 people.
Drive time to SCI is about an hour and a half. The tour is scheduled for 10:30 AM and will take about 1 to 1 and a half hours.
Please see Janell Reich to sign up and if you have any questions.

Making Strides Rally
Sunday, November 9th, At 10:00 AM
Due to the nor’easter storm, the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk of Ocean City was cancelled. But you can mark your calendar for Sunday, November 9th at 10:00 AM to join in the rally at the Ocean City Civic Center. It’s going to be an amazing time together bringing the spirit of Strides to life with sponsors, music, dancing, an inspiring stage program, a powerful survivor speaker, and Strides’ signature Survivor & Thriver Celebration! As weather in November is unpredictable, the entire event will be held inside the Civic Center. If any team members wish to take a walk on the boards that day, you are welcome to do so on your own, or stay in the Civic Center to celebrate!
As breast cancer has affected many among us, Lord of Life has had members and friends walking the 5K (3 mile) leisurely stroll along the boards for the past several years. Thanks for your patience, flexibility, and continued support in helping make strides toward a world without breast cancer. Team Lord of Life LC has currently raised $332.70, and the Ocean City Strides event has raised $328,858 toward its 2025 goal of $545,000. The donation link remains open. If interested, click below to make a secure online donation (any amount) to support Lord of Life LC’s team. Your donation helps the American Cancer Society fund groundbreaking breast cancer research, provide free information and support to help prevent breast cancer, and find it earlier when it’s easier to treat. Your donation truly helps save lives. Thank you!

Fellow Congregants:
During the month of October, the Call Committee continued its efforts to find a full-time pastor for Lord of Life. We interviewed references, and held discussions on the best way to learn about the candidate in the limited time we would have available at our next
scheduled interview.
However, before the interview took place, the candidate withdrew from the process.
While we would have preferred to continue, we understand and respect that the call process is a time of discovery and discernment, and that decisions such as this, concerning the future of both the pastor and Lord of Life are not made lightly. The candidate indicated that this decision was reached only, “after much prayer and reflection.”
As the Spirit leads the candidate to a fulfilling and satisfying position, we pray for God’s continuing blessings in his/her life.
The Synod knows of the candidates decision, and now we have to wait until Synod supplies the name of another candidate, and then we will once again begin the interview process.
Yours In Christ,
Judy Lerner

Ordinary Grace
by William Kent Krueger
This is a coming-of-age mystery about 13-year-old Frank Drum in 1961 Minnesota, who experiences a summer of multiple deaths, scandals, and human frailties that shatter his innocence and forces him to confront loss, secrets, and the meaning of faith. The novel explores themes of death, grief, the complexities of adult life, and the search for resilience and hope amidst tragedy, all under the guiding concept of "awful grace." a phrase meaning full of awe rather than "terrible," and representing God's grace as a profound, incomprehensible comfort in times of suffering.

But 12 days before Christmas, presents begin appearing on her doorstep with notes from their "True Friends." As the Smiths came together to solve the mystery of who the gifts were from, they began to thaw out from their grief and come together again as a family. This true story about the power of random acts of kindness will warm the heart, a beautiful reminder of the miracles of Christmas, and the gift of family during the holiday season.
