Peace,

Pastor Wendolyn

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Df1uoFGLfRMqeiNz4-zA7N_unOqhh7Y8/view?usp=drive_link

Also on this Sunday our Stewardship campaign will begin with a reminder to check for an email that will talk about this year's program.

Saturday/Sunday, October 7th/8th: Pastor will be on vacation to attend a Family Weekend at Dante's college, the Universitiy of Akron in Ohio. During the church services, a Temple Talk will be given about the word "Stewardship." (For pastoral emergencies, contact Pastor Eric Trozzo at 609-286-8972.)

Saturday/Sunday, October 14th/15th: During the church services, there will be a Stewardship Temple Talk on "Why to try Tithe.ly and use it during worship for your offering."

Saturday/Sunday, October 21st /22nd: We will pause from our Stewardship Campaign to focus on mental health. Church member Becky Christianson, a Christian Therapist from Rebellious Wellness Counseling in Evesham, will preach on mental health awareness and prepare us for Reformation weekend.

This is also the weekend of the "BREATHE" Women's Retreat. All the women at Lord of Life should consider joining Pastor and others from across New Jersey at this event. Pastor will return from the retreat to be at Lord of Life for Sunday worship.

Wednesday, October 25th, At 7:00 PM: QPR training.  Just like CPR, QPR is an emergency response to someone in crisis and can save lives. QPR stands for "Question, Persuade, Refer." The training will give you the tools needed to engage in these three steps if you find yourself thinking, "I'm concerned, what should I do?" This course is for everyone; please sign up by emailing the Church office at: Lordlife@Lordlife.us

Saturday/Sunday, October 28th/29th, Reformation Weekend:  On Reformation Weekend, we will post our mental health version of the 95 theses, by signing and sharing the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Stigma-Free pledge, that our Church is a safe place to ask for help and to talk about mental health. The pledge says:  The congregation of Lord of Life, in the New Jersey Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, recognizes the community mental health needs and supports the efforts of all by designating Lord of Life as a Stigma-Free Zone and challenging each other to do likewise - be Stigma Free. Learn more at https://www.nami.org/Get-Involved/Pledge-to-Be-StigmaFree .  A Temple Talk is being planned as well.

Tuesday Morning

Prayer Meeting

Tuesday, October 5th At 9:00 AM

Join us for a brief time (20-30 minutes) of guided prayer, which will be led by Pastor Wendolyn. When we did this for the National Day of Prayer in May, the response was so positive that we decided to continue it. So mark your calendars for 9:00 AM on the first Tuesday of every month! We will have a different theme/prayer focus each week and will also pray through the Lord of Life prayer list.

Adult Bible Study

"The Book of Psalms - Here, There, and Where to Look for God"

Next Session: Wednesday, October 4th

10:00 AM & 7:00 PM

Continuing On Wednesdays

10:00 AM & 7:00 PM

Your Bible has 150 Psalms in it, but what do we do with this "Scriptural songbook?" Together, we will learn how some Psalms direct us to encounter God right here, or cry to a God who feels far away, or celebrate what God can do. Each week we will read 3 Psalms together, one focusing on God right here, one on God somewhere away from us, and one on where God might be moving us. We will also connect with some of the most well-known Psalms through hymns, poetry, and art.

Even if you can't join in regularly, please come and see what our Bible studies are all about. Beginner or scholar, coming every week or just once, sitting with friends or people new to you: you will feel welcome and develop ways to live out your faith alongside other seekers and disciples.

New Ministry Possibilities

A Message From Council President Bill Reich

NJ Synod Grant Opportunity And New Ministry Ideas

Earlier this year members of Council participated in a Financial Education program offered by the Synod.  As a result, Lord of Life is eligible to participate in a Grant Program also offered by the New Jersey Synod.  The Grant provides $2,000 to a church initiating a new ministry.  There is also a further opportunity to garner an additional $5,000 in matching funds if the congregation is so inclined.  Your council has spent some time gathering ideas for new ministry opportunities.  Those ideas are as follows:

Stephen Ministry:  This ministry provides Christ centered care to individuals in the congregation and community experiencing a crisis such as a terminal illness, grief, job loss, etc.  Interested members of the congregation would be trained to provide this care and support.

LOL Scholarship Ministry:  Establish a scholarship program for members of Lord of Life.  Create a structure of requirements for eligibility and application (i.e., participation in LOL activities, acolyte, usher, choir, special music, etc.).  Consider tying this into ongoing communications and support from the congregation to our students.

The Daniel Plan:  The Daniel Plan provides a God centered approach to achieving a healthy lifestyle by optimizing five key essentials – Faith, Food, Fitness, Focus and Friends.  The ministry would provide a means, via small groups to strengthen our congregation and, the greater community.

Caregiver/Parent Night Out Ministry:  The ministry would provide respite to Caregivers and Parents of Special Needs children.  Providing structured care (learning, playing, and eating!), for a couple of hours once or twice a month to children in grades 1 through 12 with special needs, would minister to the child and the parent/caregiver.  The ministry would be provided to members and the greater community.  Holy Communion Lutheran Church in Berlin, NJ offers a similar program with great success.

Art Show Ministry:   Establish a permanent set up for Art installations in the hall leading into and on the walls around Fellowship Hall.  Host a “First Friday Art Show” with a feature local artist each month.  They would be encouraged to invite their circle of friends and family into our building for the show.  This could be paired with artist talks, open mic nights, book signings, coffee shop and/or art instruction events.  Art would be generally 2-dimensional art including paintings/drawings, quilts, photography, needlework, etc.

As with any ministry, there needs to be a team of people to oversee the work and sustain the ministry. We have these ideas, but we do not, today, have a team of people to guide any of them so that they may get off the ground.

Please consider whether you would like to be a part of any of these new ministry opportunities. If you have an interest in any of the above ideas, please send an email to council@lordlife.us to let us know.

Also, if you have an idea for a new ministry for Lord of Life that could make use of grant funds to get started, email your Church Council with the idea. Please share your thoughts on these topics with Council.

Quilt Ministry

Thursday, October 12th

At 10:00 AM

A Message From Gloria Brosious:

The October meeting of the Quilters will be on Thursday, Octobert 12th at 10:00 AM in Fellowship Hall. We will be working on making quilts for Lutheran World Relief in our 2023 - 2024 church year.

There are so many people who are involved - I thank you all. This church year will be our 10th year! I would like to see us reach 1000 quilts. We are at 956 now so that means we should be over 1,000 and celebrate in our milestone year.

Quilt Delivery Made:

Our completed quilts from 2022 - 2023 were delivered to Redeemer Lutheran Church in Vineland, the local collection center, on September 21st. A total of 108 quilts were donated! From there, they will travel to Lutheran World Relief in Maryland for worldwide distribution. Thanks to everyone who was part of making these quilts. Thanks also to Lu and Ed Hourihan, Judy and Keith Lerner, and Carolyn and Jim Cuviello who helped Bob and I with the quilt delivery.

If you want to see what happens to the quilts once they arrive at the warehouse in Maryland, watch the video that shows the quilts processed for shipping to many places around the world.

Helping Hands Ministry

Wednesday, October 25th,

At 9:00 AM

(Please Note The Time Change!)

(For The Christian Caring Center)

Helping Hands is a monthly ministry to make sandwiches for the homeless served by Christian Caring Center. It meets the last Wednesday of each month. We form an assembly line and make about 200 sandwiches in an hour. Jobs are easy – putting meat and cheese on a roll, placing sandwiches in a baggie, counting the sandwiches, and putting them in a grocery bag. Everyone gets a small, easy task and a lot gets done quickly while we share some time together. We keep everyone safe by wearing gloves and masks, spacing ourselves, and venting the room. All are invited to join us! If you have any questions, please contact Janell Reich.

Your continuing financial support is essential to maintain the Ministries of Lord Of Life. Offerings are being collected at all church services. If you are still not attending services at our church building, your contribution can be mailed to the church (1 Winchester Court, Tabernacle, NJ 08088). Both Simply Giving and Tithe.ly remain in place for all to use.
Something new has been added to make it easier for you to contribute to Lord of Life using your cell phone! Simply scan the QR code below with your cell phone, and you will be able to make a donation using Tithe.ly.
(More information about these electronic ways to contribute can be found on the church's website. The link is below.)

From The Editor:

LifeLines Lettering Issues:

The Editor wants all readers to be aware of a font rendering problem which could give the newsletter that you are viewing a strange appearance. Constant Contact, our vendor, has been made aware of this issue. We hope this technical issue will be resolved by next month.

LifeLines Ending Song:

Our ending song is ELW # 629, "Abide With Me." The biblical link to the hymn is Luke 24:29 in which the disciples asked Jesus to abide with them "for it is toward evening and the day is spent." The music is the tune Eventide, which, ironically, marries up with the words that refer to the day's end. Years ago in my youth days, this hymn was sung as the final one during an evening service at our Lutheran church in Union City, NJ. Enjoy this oldie which remains a goodie.
