From The Pastor's Desk:
The Results of Justification
So, there I am, reading Paul’s letter to the Romans, and the Chapter 5 header is: “The Results of Justification.” He has just finished explaining how and why God has acted in Christ to save us and all of creation, and he highlights the results. We are justified by faith. Cool. We have peace with God. Even better. We stand in grace. I love that image! Then Paul tells us the result of these things: “We boast in our hope of sharing the glory of God.”
The list is long in what we do not boast about. Not our size, or age, or wealth, or standing in the community. Instead we boast in our hope of sharing the glory to God. Yes, we do!
With hope in our hearts we share as we serve those in need locally and far away. In hope we share our faith as we gather to study scripture, and as we support the faith growth of children and Confirmation students. In hope we gather to worship joyfully, and doing so with open and welcoming arms and hearts. And, we hope in God’s glory as we envision the future and respond to God’s call for Lord of Life.
Each of has many opportunities to share the glory of God! Worship in community with God and neighbor. Serve in whatever way you are called and are able. Give of yourself with a glad and thankful heart. Gather in fellowship knowing that you are deeply loved, standing in grace, and justified by faith.
Together, God has called us to be one in Christ - Lord of Life! Have hope! Share the glory!
“Therefore, since we are justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have obtained access to this grace in which we stand; and we boast in our hope of sharing the glory of God.”
Romans 5:1-2

Reformation Weekend
Saturday And Sunday
October 26th And 27th
More than 500 years ago, the Protestant Reformation brought the church’s focus back to God’s free gift of salvation in Jesus Christ. On October 31, 1517, Martin Luther posted the 95 Theses - the “Disputation on the Power and Efficacy of Indulgences” - to the church door in a small city called Wittenberg, Germany. This event ignited the Protestant Reformation, and thus the Lutheran church officially commemorates this important anniversary on October 31st. Special church services occur on a weekend close to that date, and, this year, it is October 26th and 27th.
The Reformation was, first and foremost, all about the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It was then, and it still is now. The task of reformation never ends. Every person, in every generation, needs to hear the Good News spoken by our Saviour.
Come and celebrate with us at our church services on Saturday, October 26th and Sunday, October 27th. If you have something red to wear, please do so, as this is the liturgical color for this weekend.

Your donations, labeled "Air Conditioning Fund", may be placed into the offering plates. The electronic giving service Tithe.ly (https://tithe.ly/give_new/www/#/tithely/give-one-time/956196) has been recently updated for this new fund. Of course, you may mail your

A "Note" From Rick Krause:
Cartoon Christmas Trio Coming To Lord Of Life
Saturday, December 7th,
At 5:00 PM
Dear Lord of Life Families,
I know it's only October, but the Christmas season will soon be here. With that in mind, Lord of Life will be hosting the Cartoon Christmas Trio for a free concert at the church on Saturday, December 7th at 5:00 PM.
The Cartoon Christmas Trio will perform every song from the “A Charlie Brown Christmas” recording, using the exact instrumentation that Guaraldi originally composed. In addition to the Peanuts music, the trio will play songs from "The Grinch Who Stole Christmas", "Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer", "Frosty the Snowman", and "The Little Drummer Boy", just to name a few.
We are looking to form a children's choir to sing 3 Christmas songs with the trio at the concert. They are:
Christmas Time is Here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4PzetPqepXA
Hark the Herald Angels Sing - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_KCb3IG60pU
My Little Drum - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XO2kSduwY34
There will be several scheduled practices (1/2 hour long) starting in a few weeks. They will be on Sunday morning after church, but other days and times can be scheduled to accommodate everyone who wants to participate.
Would you be interested in singing the three songs at the concert? Please let me know ASAP. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me. You can see me at church, send me an e-mail, or text/call me at your convenience.
If you would like to find out more about the Cartoon Christmas Trio, please visit their website at https://cartoonchristmastrio.com/home.
Thank you in advance for your consideration, and I hope to hear back from you in the very near future.
Blessings!

You're Invited!
How You Can Help!
As a congregation member, did you know that you are the best force for bringing new members into our church community? We have come up with an invitation program in which you can be a part.
We have "Invitation Cards" available (See the photo above which includes our knitted "octopus," and the two below of the text on the cards.) that you are encouraged to pick up and give to friends and neighbors with children who do not have a church home or are seeking a different one. All you need to do is to hand the invitation to them and tell them about our church and youth programs. This kind of outreach by you will certainly make a difference to bring them into our church family.
(Breanne has the invitations. See her to pick up as many as you like.)

Book Club November And December Preview
Here are the upcoming books!
| |
|
November 12:
Falling Upward: A Spirituality for the Two Halves of Life
By Richard Rohr
The author seeks to help readers understand the tasks of the two halves of life and to show them that those who have fallen, failed, or "gone down" are the only ones who understand "up."
| |
|
December 10th:
In God We Trust, All Others Pay Cash
And
Wanda Hickey's Night of Golden Memories and Other Disasters
Both By Jean Shepherd
We will read either of the books written by Jean Shepherd that inspired A Christmas Story. In the first book, Shepherd talks about his wildly witty reunion with his Indiana hometown and disproves the adage, "You can never go back." This is a wonderfully nostalgic memoir of a more innocent era when life was good, fun was clean, and station wagons roamed the earth. In the second book, Shepherd’s memoir is a universal (and achingly funny) remembrance of the rites of growing up, including the gut-wrenching playground antics of one Delbert Bumpus.

Seeking Potential
Church Council
Members
As we begin the Fall season, it is time to start thinking about electing a new set of church council members. The election will take place at our 2025 Annual Meeting which is normally held in January. Council members need to take their calling to serve seriously. They have a duty to:
- leave personal agendas behind, make decisions in the best interest of the church based upon core values
- read and process material provided for a meeting ahead of time
- attend monthly meetings
- prepare ahead of the meeting to resolve issues in order to allow the meeting to run smoothly
- make the organization, our church, their number one philanthropic priority during their term of service
- listen to the viewpoints of others
- guard the mission of the church and not allow for “mission creep,” that is, engaging in activities that do not align with the core values of the church
- become articulate in being able to describe the purpose and impact of our church
- assure that the mission and ministries of the church are funded appropriately
- be involved in at least one ministry of the church with other volunteers
If you feel a calling to participate on the church council of YOUR CHURCH as outlined above, contact the Nominating Committee Chairman, Ed Hourihan. A link to his email is below.

Time For Talents
Friday, September 6th
It was a day that the group was "left in stitches!" There was knitting, crocheting, and sewing being done. Photos show Nancy Lakeman, Sara King, and Nancy Cottingham crocheting blanket squares while Gloria and Bob Brosious teach Trish Macri-Dainis the key elements of using a sewing machine.

God's Work Our Hands Weekend
Saturday and Sunday, September 7th and 8th
A number of activities occured over the course of the weekend. 88 quilts, which were sewn by our Quilting Ministry members, were blessed during the Saturday evening church service. The quilts will be distributed to all parts of the world by Lutheran World Relief. Also, a Mission Trip presentation was given by Ed Hourihan.
Later that night, it was showtime, with the presentation of The Garfield Movie. The Sanctuary was transformed into a movie theater, complete with a large, inflatable screen, and popcorn for all. Thanks to all who volunteered to make this event possible!
On Sunday morning, all the quilts were displayed on the pews and, again, were blessed by Pastor. Students brought their backpacks to the service, and they received a blessing as well. The Mission Trip presentation was given as it was at the Saturday evening service. Our choir returned to sing a special God's Work, Our Hands anthem, and, toward the end of the service, the congregation joined with Pastor in an Affirmation of Christian Vocation.
Following the service, the quilts were boxed for shippment, and 16 church members participated in cleaning two township roads. Money received for the road clean up will be donated to the Christian Caring Center, Bridge of Peace, and our Scholorship Fund.

Church Picnic
Sunday, September 15th
Food, fun, and fellowship were the key words on this day. Our annual Church Picnic was held on the church grounds following the morning service. Prior to the serving line being opened, a chili cook-off contest was held with Barbara Ma being awarded the grand prize by judges Peter Fucci, Paul Safier, and Chuck Bubeck. The food was delicious! Thanks to all who provided chili, salads, and desserts. Also thanks to Judy and Keith Lerner for organizing the event.

From there, they will be taken to Maryland for shipping to many different destinations around the world. Thanks to Gloria Brosious for leading our quilting ministry and to all of our quilters who sewed the quilts.

This month's ending song is a tribute to the Rev. David Mangiante, who passed away on September 6th at the age of 94. He served as a supply pastor at a number of services at Lord of Life , and many congregation members did know him well. Pastor Emeritus David Jones served with him at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hainesport. The Editor got to know him while he served as Interim Pastor at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Moorestown. We bonded as both being graduates of Rutgers College. Most don't know that when at Rutgers, pastor was a member of the lightweight crew team. It was a blessing to have had Pastor Mangiante touch my life. Rest in God's Peace faithful servant.
