Geology of the National Parks, Online (8 - Thursday sessions), starting Thu., Apr. 9, 10 – 11:30 a.m.  Our U.S. National Parks preserve spectacular icons of Earth’s geologic heritage. They contain some of the world’s finest examples of geologic phenomena including mountains, canyons, glaciers, volcanoes, coastlines, caverns, dunes, and more. TSC Lifelong Learning Coordinator and geologist Maureen Haberfeld will share some basic geology lessons and lead participants on virtual exploration of the geologic wonders in our beautiful parks.
Travel with Tom: Hiking in Madeira and the Azores, online class offered Tue. Apr. 14, 1:30 – 3 p.m. Join Tom Friedman for a hiking trip on the Portuguese Islands of Madeira and Sao Miguel (Azores) located of the shores of Portugal and Africa in the Atlantic Ocean. Madeira is very mountainous and driving often takes you through the many tunnels that are on virtually every road. Hiking is strenuous as we visit stunning views of mountains with centuries old irrigation canals and tunnels, quaint towns and the ever present Atlantic. Tom visited Sao Miguel just after the hurricane and immediate saw that Sao Miguel was very different from Madeira. Sao Miguel is volcanic and has become a rich agricultural area.
