In this edition of Wes’s Weekly Wrap Up, Wes Tillett (CEO, LUM) shares how LUM serves as "a lifeline of help and hope" by providing essential resources, compassionate support, and pathways toward greater stability.

Vital Records Can Be a First Step Toward Stability

Stories from the Lobby

Birth certificates and other vital documents may seem like simple pieces of paper, but they can play a critical role in helping someone find a job.

One LUM client experienced this firsthand. Because of the unique spelling of her name, she faced challenges obtaining her birth certificate. Without it, she was unable to get her driver’s license, creating a barrier to employment.

Thankfully, the volunteers at LUM’s ID Clinic were able to help her navigate the process. With their support, she obtained her birth certificate and was able to get her driver’s license. She later returned to the LUM Office, proudly waving her new license and beaming with pride as she shared that she had secured a job.

Sometimes, a birth certificate is more than a document. It can be the first step toward a job, greater independence, and a more stable future.

Behind the Scenes

LUM Homeless Services Experience

Behind the Scenes Homeless Services Experience is designed to be upbeat and interactive, while giving you a glimpse of what our overnight shelter guests experience, including a typical shelter meal. You can anticipate a shelter tour, short presentation, dinner will be served followed by cookies, coffee, and a brief Q&A. Attire for the evening is casual.

Word of Hope

Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.
