Faith Formation Connections

From the heart of our Pastoral Associate...Dr. Kathie Amidei
"Joy is the infallible sign of the presence of God" (Teilhard de Chardin)
At our Parent Café, this week we discussed the question:
How can you help your child achieve joy in the midst of all the tragedies in the world?
Though you can read more about the parent cafe on our family program blog, here are just a few wonderful thoughts of some wisdom that was shared to help you carry joy into your week.

* Justin and Christine Morris shared a great quote they gave their son:
The first to apologize is the bravest, the first to forgive is the strongest, and the first to forget is the happiest.

* Mary Lane shared what she teaches the
children in her class about how to order priorities to find Joy: Jesus- Others- Yourself.

* Lisa Metz shared this quote from Pope Francis: " A healthy Christian is a joyful Christian, even in times of sorrow and tribulation."

And, my friend, Henri Nouwen said:
Joy does not simply happen to us. We have to keep choosing it every day.

We can choose joy even amid difficulties and disappointments, if faith in God's love for us, is the foundation upon which we build life. Trust in that love. Today choose joy.

Registration is now open for our middle school mission experience:  Summer Outreach Camp!  This is a half week Christ-centered mission July 25-27, offering 7th & 8th graders an opportunity to serve our
neighbors and community through hands-on assistance and work. We'll stay overnight here and spend the days serving in Waukesha County.
Middle in the Middle - where youth in middle school meet in the middle of the month for fun, fellowship, faith and food, meets on February 15.  There is no cost and an RSVP is not necessary but does help in planning for supplies.  You can RSVP online.  In February we'll be playing faith facts games.
You can see one of the games we played during our family program class on the middle school blog. Family Program

Our Family Activity this week included attending the teaching Mass.  Why is weekly Mass attendance important?  Because discipline in our prayer is necessary for spiritual growth.  Here is what Pope Benedict XVI had to say on that; "It is important for the process of spiritual growth that you don't just pray and study your faith at times when it happens to cross your mind; when it suits you; but that you observe some discipline."  (From the daily reflection for January 21 Benedictus Moments.)

Teaching Mass Follow-up
It was a highlight of our week to have both Eli and Anna feeling well enough to attend family program with their families. We continue to pray for healing from them and strength for their families.

See photos and hear more about each family program, as well as links to handouts, on the Family Program Blog. We are grateful to Mary Maddocks for sharing her passion of photography with us to have so many photos to share with you.

LaPetite Family Program

Children learned about Baptism during our LaPetite Pre-K & K centers.

Students in Grades 1-3 learned about the Last Supper during the Center time by reading a script, dressing up and drinking juice and eating flat bread.

Family Inspiration

Some find it helpful to read the Sunday readings in advance of coming to Mass. One father in our community has shared with us that when his children were little he would read the readings to them in fun voices during the week. They loved it and he would get more out of the readings then when he heard them again at Mass on the weekend.
The daily and weekend readings can be found on the USCCB websiteThe readings for January 29.
