Faith Formation Findings
resources for everyday faith living
“Lifelong faith formation in the ELCA is guided by our baptismal covenant and the Holy Spirit's ongoing guidance as we live among God's faithful people, hear the word of God and share in the Lord's supper, proclaim the good news of God in Christ through word and deed, serve all people, following the example of Jesus.
Our Synod has been invited to participate in this new way of being church and a new way of talking about our life of faith in our daily life. The Southwestern Texas Synod congregations that have signed up to participate are now a cohort. The next task will be an initial orientation in mid-April with preliminary training for the rostered leaders where next steps of forming a leadership team, assigning coaches, and preparing for our full-scale, in-person training session. Update
Lent Faith Practice:
“Standing Soul to Soul”
Now that the weather is getting warmer, the trees are flowering and shrubs are starting to leaf out, we find ourselves lingering longer outside, eyes-wide-open for the signs of spring.
In gratitude for the changing season:
  • Find a piece of earth where you can easily stand on the ground.
  • Take off your shoes and socks.
  • Take a few deep breaths: breath in, inviting the Spirit to be with you, breathing out, let go of worries and distractions.
  • Now, take a step onto the earth, and think of our generous, radically loving God who created all the earth’s beauty, including you. Send a quick prayer of gratitude to God.
  • When you are ready step back, put on your shoes and socks and greet the day!

Service Opportunity: Mission at the Margins
Most food banks do well between Thanksgiving and Christmas when most of us are feeling particularly generous, and they can meet the needs of our hungry neighbors. But folks are hungry all year long, and our food banks are depleted after the holidays. Now, would be a great time to make our communities aware of this on-going need.

It’s time to gather money (most food banks can buy food much cheaper than we can) and food to help replenish their stocks!

Don’t know where our local food bank is located? Go to the Texas Food Bank Network for a list, with contact information, for your area. Give them a call to ask about what they really need, and start a food drive today!
