In 2020, Keith Keating, senior director of global learning strategies at GP Strategies Corp., wrote an article on “the mindset of a lifelong learner,” stating, “When you become a lifelong learner and focus on continual learning of new, in-demand skills, you claim the power to face the future of work successfully.”

In today’s highly competitive professional environment, one cannot simply get by on past training or a graduate degree earned 20, five or even two years ago and expect to be equipped to tackle the abruptness and range of today’s challenges.

Not only must the contemporary and future workforces embrace the concept of lifelong learning, they must also accept it as the way forward if they wish to remain relevant throughout their entire career. Keating points out “the question then becomes not whether a robot or AI system will render you obsolete, but whether you will rise to the challenge of learning what it takes to stay relevant and employed.”

Room-occupancy sensors. More co-working space. Smaller private offices — or none at all — and more collaborative space. These are among the many new occupancy management issues on the minds of corporate executives and facilities managers as they grapple with bringing employees back to the office in a manner that allows them to make the most efficient use of their office space while accommodating hybrid work.

There is no defined, one-size-fits-all playbook for how companies can accommodate changes in employees’ time in the office and support the type of work they will do when there. To that end, a new study from global commercial real estate services and investment firm CBRE examined 42 companies occupying a cumulative 350 million sq. ft. of office space across the globe to better understand the complex occupancy dynamics behind the trend toward widespread hybrid work.

Their challenge is to accommodate an often uneven flow of employees into and out of the office on a given day, detect patterns around which to shape their office design and amenities, and recalibrate the size of their office portfolio accordingly.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently celebrated the 580 manufacturing plants that achieved the energy savings goals set out by EPA 10 years ago to drive energy efficiency and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reductions. Through the Energy Star Challenge for Industry, manufacturing plants agreed to reduce energy intensity by 10 percent within five years. These 580 plants nearly doubled this goal.

On average, plants that met this challenge reduced their energy intensity by 19% within an average of two years. More than 100 plants have taken the challenge twice in a row, achieving reductions of more than 10% each time. Together, these plants have prevented more than 17 million metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions from entering our atmosphere and saved more than $443 million in energy costs.

SC Johnson Professional, provider of expert skin care, cleaning and hygiene solutions for industrial, institutional and healthcare users, has just launched the EZ CARE Floor Care System. This innovative floor-care system includes two chemistries — a floor coating and a floor coating remover, which when used along with the proprietary high-speed EZ Care Conditioning and Polish pad, is designed to help users achieve a durable, high-gloss shine on a variety of substrates.

Because the remover can be used with an auto-scrubber, the system helps save time and reduce labor costs in comparison to conventional floor stripping using a mop and bucket. Starting with a bare floor, the high-speed conditioning and polish pad is utilized to smooth and prepare the floor. Once the floor is prepared, the EZ Care Floor Coating is applied, requiring no more than four coa
