Lifeskills Therapists Pursuing DBT Certification
This past week, Lifeskills South Florida sent its second team of therapists to the Intensive DBT training in Santa Monica, California , offered by Marsha Linehan’s Behavioral Tech Institute . Only a handful of teams across the country are selected each year for the intensive DBT training; our team included Dr. Lyndsey Karns , Miguel Nerys , Ostin Celestin and Dr. Dean Rotondo. This training experience provided expert instruction on DBT’s theoretical model, principles, and functions. The trainers also offered individualized consultation on strategies to implement a DBT program with strong fidelity to the evidence-based theoretical model. In keeping with the goal of offering comprehensive DBT treatment, these clinicians will be on the path for DBT certification. There is currently only one other mental health treatment provider with this certification in a 50-mile radius of Lifeskills, and this intensive training will serve to strengthen and expand the Lifeskills DBT program.
Treating Chronic Pain after an Opioid Addiction

Back pain is the most common pain condition, followed by severe headache and migraine pain. One method for alleviating pain is with opiate medications, which can cause concern for people in recovery from an addiction. Past substance abuse addictions can worsen pain issues, in particular for those who have a history of opioid abuse. Treating pain in a context of addiction can often be complicated; however, those with addiction still suffer pain and in some cases, have more severe pain than people without an addiction.

Benefits of Cognitive Remediation Therapy

Cognitive remediation therapy (CRT) was developed to treat disorders like  schizophrenia , often characterized by cognitive impairments and disorganized thinking, causing abnormal functioning in relationships, at work, and in school. Cognitive remediation therapy helps an individual improve their attention, memory, problem-solving, organizational, and planning skills.  Research  has also shown CRT as a successful method of treating  addiction .
Client Testimonials
"My state of mind changed thanks to Lifeskills. Every single person there helped me make my life better. It was not easy at first but, that's the way it goes when one disconnects and enters a treatment center. The point is to focus only on yourself, and the professionals in Lifeskills will guide you. Also, the people you are going to meet there are going to show you that you are not alone. Eventually, depending on your situation, family is going to be a part of the treatment. The infrastructure is well designed. Every townhouse is comfortable and the maintenance team is great, then it is up to you and your roommates to keep it organized. My life had to be paused in order to build my new self, stronger and healthier. Lifeskills was my home for 4 months, my case was mental and emotional recovery from a brain surgery and my struggle with Borderline Personality Disorder . I became a new person after being in Lifeskills."
