If you follow the breaking news on
Nip Impressions, you learned Thursday morning, 31 Jan 19, about the loss of the Soundview paper mill in New Jersey, USA. A historic mill, it went up in flames during the height of the deep freeze that hit most of the US. It was a seven-alarm fire.
Without knowing anything else, there are two lessons here. The first one is a housekeeping lesson. I have no way of knowing the housekeeping condition of the mill, but I can tell you that things that don't exist can't burn.
But it follows the same lesson that goes for Light Green Machine principles, too. If we find ways to eliminate or simplify machinery, not only will it not burn, it will not have maintenance problems. For many years this has been the focus of the Light Green Machine Institute. If it doesn't exist, it is not a worry or a hindrance to our operations. The Soundview fire is just one way to bring these principles home.
