Prayer Partner Alliance Newsletter
April 2022
From Loretta's Desk
Protected Harbor received an abundance of blessings in the past month. An outpouring of support from three major volunteer groups left us amazed and grateful for all they accomplished.

Ms. Stacey Krieg organized a team of volunteers who coordinated and facilitated an incredible party for our clients and guests called “Let Go My Lego”. The evening was punctuated by game playing, fellowship, competitions, and of course prizes. Thanks to Stacey’s team, lifetime memories were built, smiles were abundant, and joy was shared by everyone involved.

We were next blessed by the Estero Church. Led by Mission Director Rosemary Swanson, they provided financial resources and an enthusiastic team of volunteers to begin a house-wide makeover at our Camino Real home. They began by removing carpeting in all eight suites, then painted the rooms plus the staff apartments. Before installing new flooring, each resident was invited to write their favorite Bible verses on the unfinished floors. These blessings provide symbolic protection for the foundation of all we do at Protected Harbor. The volunteers also tackled some outdoor projects refreshing the landscape. Others spent time reorganizing the kitchen sorting small appliances, dishes, cutlery, and glasses. The ladies who enjoy cooking will certainly have an easier time accessing the utensils they need while creating their favorite dishes.

Finally, two teams from First Baptist Church Naples, led by Tina Platter, completed other major outdoor projects at each of our homes. They trimmed bushes, power washed exterior surfaces, refreshed windows, and laid pavers. The physical labor was exhausting yet rewarding. Seeing the results, the residents smiled and applauded in appreciation. FBCN also blessed us financially with a donation towards the purchase of new kitchen appliances for our Camino Real home.

The lives of those who live and work at Protected Harbor were uplifted and blessed by the seventy-five volunteers who donated so many hours to update and beautify our homes. We serve an awesome God. His love was clearly demonstrated through the efforts of these wonderful servants and the prayers and continued giving from all our faithful supporters. What an amazing month this has been!
Board Member Spotlight: Jeff Buchholz
Jeff Buchholz currently serves as Protected Harbor’s board president and on the Executive and Finance Committees.  Ten years ago, Bob Schubring introduced Jeff to the ministry and encouraged him to get involved. Jeff states his reward for the long hours of commitment are the smiles of the people we serve and watching the staff go above and beyond their official duties to guide and love our clients.

The reason for giving his time and talent to this organization is because “this is what God tells us to do”. It gives him joy to help God’s Special People, and Jeff loves the people he serves with. “We are doing God’s work, this is not our ministry, it’s His and we need to listen to God to see where He wants to take this ministry.” Jeff went on to say that we are just the hands and feet that help accomplish God’s work here on earth.
Behind the Smiles: Meet Janie
Janie is happy living at Protected Harbor as her permanent home. She has a routine that keeps her anchored and safe. She starts her day by taking medication as prescribed by her doctor, making breakfast, and regularly doing her laundry. She also likes mopping the floor and carefully cleaning her bathroom. Once her daily chores are complete, Janie leaves the house to volunteer at a local Christian school.

Janie is known to tell those around her to “trust in the Lord!”. She enjoys going to church and praying for others, this gives her fulfillment and a purpose. She is a powerful prayer warrior and whenever anyone has an urgent need they take it to Janie. God hears all prayers but sometimes, Janie’s gift seems like a special direct line to the Lord!
