Prayer Partner Alliance Newsletter
October 2021
From Loretta's Desk
This month the excitement continues as we count the days towards our “Spiritual Camp” which will take place October 19-21 with the support of Trailways. It will be days and nights of fun and games with the added component of a spiritual focus on praise and prayer.

We thank all the volunteers and helpers in advance who have committed their time to help create new and lasting memories for our residents. The interest has been so high that we already anticipate holding a second such camp in March next year! We also extend very special thanks to the Robert V. and Benjamin G. Miller Fund for making these opportunities possible. God is good!

In September we celebrated “Fiesta Game Day”. It was a day of fun as residents and volunteers played Uno, life-size Connect Four, Corn Hole, had a Bingo tournament, enjoyed Putt-Putt games, and participated in arts and crafts followed by a picnic lunch, movie, and popcorn. We ended with a time for Bible study, praise songs, and everyone’s favorite, a taco bar!

Later in the month, a gracious donor offered a beach excursion to a Marco Island hotel. Residents, staff, volunteers, and special guests, shared a wonderful day of fellowship. The fun included beach games, the resort pool, and the added bonus of a delicious lunch.

We are eternally grateful for our donors who partner with us and whose generosity allows our clients to live their very best lives. Behind the Smiles, is a spirit of gratitude, evident on all the happy faces at Protected Harbor.

Finally, we are blessed to welcome Clarissa Miller who joins Protected Harbor as our first AmeriCorps Vista. She will be engaged in expanding existing programs and services while helping to create new ones. These will help us to achieve our strategic goals to reach and enrich the lives of more of God’s Special People. For this we are thankful.

“For the ministry of this service is not only fully supplying the needs of the saints, but also overflowing through many thanksgivings to God” 2 Corinthians 9:12.

Committee Member Spotlight:
Cindy Weiner
Cindy Weiner recently joined the Marketing Committee for Protected Harbor. Her professional expertise will be a true asset as we continue to expand our outreach and increase public awareness of our mission.

She was introduced to PH by her neighbor and friend Joe Gandolfo. Joe serves on our Board and he invited Cindy and her husband, Buzz to our recent Olympics event in which residents competed in games to win medals. By volunteering, they were able to interact personally with the residents; a rewarding experience for all.

Cindy and Buzz have been married six years, she has two stepchildren and five grandchildren. She keeps active playing golf and traveling with Buzz in their RV. She also volunteers with the Parkinson’s Association of SWFL.
Behind the Smiles: Meet Crystal
We love highlighting our wonderful residents! Crystal is one of those people whose infectious smile becomes immediately contagious. You may even have seen her sweet face on some of our marketing pieces.

Crystal came to live at Protected Harbor after her family met some of the residents of PH while attending the same church. It was a divine connection. Crystal’s mom needed an emergency placement for her having recently been made aware she would not survive a fatal illness. Our staff, fully aware of Crystal’s circumstances promised that when the time came, Crystal would have a home at Protected Harbor.
We are so grateful for the outpouring of support from our donors.  In response to the many calls we receive asking how you can help, we are continuing our new Online Wish List.  Click the Contribution link on the left for a current list of items needed and desired for the homes.  Items are shipped directly to the homes making it even easier for those wishing to lend an extra hand of support.
