Like the Friends of Nobska, the United States Lighthouse Society is a nonprofit historical and educational organization. Unlike Nobska, they are dedicated to saving and sharing the rich maritime legacy of ALL American lighthouses and supporting lighthouse preservation throughout the nation.  As a result of this mission, this year they awarded Nobska and 23 other lighthouses $1,000 grants to support preservation efforts. We thank them!

The United States Lighthouse Society is perhaps best known as the originators of the Lighthouse Passport Program.  At Nobska, we stamp passports when we are open and return requests for stamps that we receive by mail if they are accompanied by a small donation and a self addressed stamped envelope. For us, it is fun to see where people visiting Nobska come from and what other lighthouses they have seen!

The United States Lighthouse Society maintains a terrific archive as a resource to those keeping lights and for the public who want to know more.  There are a huge number of interesting resources on their website. To learn more about them, click here.

to be the candle or the mirror that reflects it."
