Outdoor Illumination has had the privilege of working with Richardson & Associates Landscape Architecture on many projects over the years, including this recent collaboration with Jordan Clough, LA, and Pimenta Stone. Together, we integrated linear lighting into the “floating” steps and patio—a detail that required precision and teamwork.
With only two inches of clearance, the lighting track had to be installed during the stone veneer application. The result is seamless, serviceable step and patio lighting that enhances both safety and design.
Lighting for this project’s striking strip details was designed by Bill Winston, Senior Lighting Design Engineer.

We believe every great landscape deserves irrigation that supports it from the ground up. Recently, we had the privilege of partnering with Ed Ball Designs to bring two very different outdoor living spaces to life in Arlington, VA.
Project One: A Compact Space, Reimagined for Impact
In this smaller backyard, Ed Ball’s design maximized every square foot with a pool, cascading waterfall, layered planting beds, and intimate lounge areas. Our role was to ensure the irrigation matched the precision of the design. We developed a system that separated turf from planting beds—giving each the tailored watering it needs to thrive.

Project Two: Refined Entertaining for Indoor-Outdoor Living
On this estate property, the challenge was scale. A reasonably sized lawn area, structured plantings, and open lawns required irrigation that could adapt to a complex site with multiple trades working simultaneously.
Outdoor Illumination designed and installed a system that delivers even coverage across all zones, ensuring turf and plantings receive the right amount of water to thrive. The result is discreet, reliable irrigation that sustains the beauty of Ed Ball’s design vision

From compact city gardens to sprawling estates, Outdoor Illumination’s irrigation solutions ensure that landscapes not only look extraordinary on day one but continue to flourish year after year.
Congratulations to Ed Ball Designs, recently named Best Landscape Designer in Washington, D.C. by Modern Luxury. It’s an honor to collaborate with a visionary team whose designs consistently set the standard for outdoor living.

On Maryland’s Eastern Shore, collaboration brought a truly exceptional waterfront property to life. At this Easton residence, Outdoor Illumination partnered with a team of visionary builders and landscape professionals to deliver irrigation and lighting systems that elevate the property’s design and protect its beauty for years to come.
Irrigation Excellence
Led by our Operations Manager, Brian Camp, our irrigation team designed and installed a two-wire irrigation system—state-of-the-art technology that provides flexibility, efficiency, and precision across a property of this scale that demanded a system that could manage multiple zones simultaneously while adapting to the pace of construction. The result is an efficient irrigation system that keeps plants healthy while conserving water.

Lighting Design
Matt Williams designed lighting that highlights the property from the allée to the dock.. Wires were carefully run beneath the dock and through the bulkhead, while moonlights were placed in mature trees to create a natural, balanced glow. Solid brass fixtures were chosen to withstand the salinity of the Tred Avon River, and multiple lighting zones give the homeowner flexibility to create atmosphere while maintaining safety and security.
Partnership in Action
This project was a true team effort, and we are proud to have collaborated with:
Together, we created a seamless integration of architecture, landscape, irrigation, and lighting—an achievement that showcases the very best of design-led outdoor living on the Shore.

“When my home’s exterior was illuminated I was thrilled with the results. Beautiful, practical, and installed without a hitch in what seemed like an impossibly short time frame. I get compliments on the magical effects almost daily (or, maybe nightly).”
