Tante congratulazioni al Presidente Alberto Mustone e ai membri del Comites di Boston per il riconoscimento del loro impegno al servizio della comunità italiana, ricevuto in occasione della 113ma edizione della Fisherman’s Feast, la festa della “Madonna del Soccorso” in ricordo dei sacrifici di generazioni di marinai italiani, ambientata nello storico North End cittadino.
Congratulations to President Alberto Mustone and the members of the Boston Comites for the recognition of their commitment to the service of the Italian community, received on the occasion of the 113th edition of the Fisherman's Feast, the feast of the “Madonna del Soccorso” in memory of the sacrifices of generations of Italian sailors, set in the city's historic North End.

Visita al Little Italy Carnival e incontro con la comunità italiana di Portsmouth, New Hampshire! Bellissimo evento e cena di gala in ricordo del North End della città, la Little Italy locale, fino agli anni sessanta luogo di una fiorente e intraprendente comunità del nostro Paese.
Complimenti alla città di Portsmouth, in occasione dei suoi 400 anni di storia (1623-2023) e onorati di aver conosciuto le storie di tante famiglie italiane immigrate qui nel secolo scorso, straordinario esempio di sacrificio e resilienza.
Grazie ai bravissimi insegnanti cresce la lingua italiana nelle scuole di Portsmouth e a UNH - University of New Hampshire.
A wonderful visit to the Little Italy Carnival and meeting with the Italian community of Portsmouth followed by a delightful gala dinner commemorating the city's North End, known as the local Little Italy, which was until the 1960s the site of a thriving and enterprising Italian community.
Congratulations to the city of Portsmouth on the occasion of its 400 years of history (1623-2023). Honored for the opportunity to learn the stories of so many Italian families who immigrated here in the last century, extraordinary examples of sacrifice and resilience.
A heartfelt thank you to the amazing teachers of the Italian language in Portsmouth schools and UNH - University of New Hampshire for their commitment to the promotion and growth of the Italian language in the community.

Lou Polli Tribute

Luigi Americo Polli was born in Baveno, Italy on July 9,1901 and emigrated to Barre, Vermont with his family shortly thereafter. The family chose Barre, due to its similarity to Baveno, a little town on Lago Maggiore in the Italian Alps, where stone was quarried and manufactured. Lou went on to become a talented athlete in high school and was injured in a football game where his teammates nicknamed him “Crip” which stuck with him for his entire life.
Lou’s favorite sport however was baseball, and he was a very talented pitcher. He is recognized by the National Baseball Hall of Fame as the first Italian born ball player to play in the Major Leagues. His career began with the New York Yankees in 1927. Crip was considered one of the greatest pitchers in Minor League history, pitching four no-hitters while amassing a record of 236 wins against 226 losses.
Crip Polli died on December 19, 2002, at the age of 99. At the time of his death, he was the oldest living ex-major league player. He is buried in Hope Cemetery in Barre, Vermont. His family and friends organized an amazing tribute to him on July 8th at the Vermont Mountaineers game in Montpelier, Vermont.
In April, the Console Generale Arnaldo Minuti visited Vermont which included a tour of Hope Cemetery, where he was met by Bob Campo, Grand-Nephew of Lou Polli. The Consul later drafted a letter honoring Lou Polli which Bob read as part of the on-field tribute on July 8th.

Would you like to learn to speak Italian?
For over the past 20 years, the Burlington Sons of Italy Lodge 2223 has been offering two 12-week semesters of Italian Language Classes annually. The 12 weeks of highly acclaimed classes are offered at six different learning levels from Beginner to Intermediate to Advanced. There is something for everyone no matter the experience level. Further, the classes are taught by professional Italian teachers from academia.
The classes are especially aimed at those who have no Italian language experience and two beginner levels are offered. Then for those with a smattering of Italian language expertise and are planning a trip to Italy in the near future and need to sharpen their skills, there are two intermediate levels and they are a perfect fit for such travel. Finally the advanced levels are for those who want to go beyond.
