“
To say it was a beautiful day would not begin to explain it. It was that day when the end of summer intersects perfectly with the start of fall.

In the next few weeks, we will be highlighting our newly installed 2020 'Destination Spokane' Executive Committee. Last week, we introduced you to our Co-VP's of Royalty, Kim and Monika. The Lilac Festival is an all Volunteer organization and we are extremely fortunate to have a group of leaders that dedicate their precious time to continuing this great tradition and bringing it into the future successfully.

Dan Ver Heul
2020 President
|
Dan has been a member of Lilac since 2010. He joined the Parade Krewe with the encouragement of a good friend, then Director and VP of Parade, the late, Mike Dedmon. He enjoyed volunteering so much that he became a Director, Co-Chaired VP of Parade and then eventually ran the Parade as VP, which he has done for the past 5 years. As he steps into the President role, he has passed on the Parade reigns, though we know it will still be one of the best in the nation thanks to his and the whole Parade Krewes' hard work over the past years.
Dan finds being a member of Lilac as a way of giving back to the community, but more importantly to our military as we honor them both past and present. His favorite Lilac memory is being able to help create an equestrian award of excellence as well as a commemorative coin in his good friend, Mike Dedmon's, name and memory. The coin is dedicated to the many volunteer hours Mike put into the Parade's success as the VP of Parade.
Outside of Lilac, Dan is a VERY busy man. He is a Funeral Director with Dignity Memorial Funeral Homes as well as the owner of Rocketman Pyros, a firework display company. He is the proud husband of wife, Chris, and father of two grown children, Matt & Stephanie. Chris and Dan are extremely proud grandparents to two little ones, Penny and Jasper. If you have ever had the chance to talk to Dan for even five minutes, you will realize that family is the most important thing to him. Check out the link further down Lilac Weekly to hear from Dan on his vision for the 2020 year and why his theme is so special to him and his family.
We are honored to have Dan leading the way in 2020 and are very excited to see where he will take us going into this new generation.

Although all of our ladies are now at their respective colleges, a few will be returning to hop on the 2019 'We Are Spokane' float one last time to head down the streets of Rockford, WA during the SE Spokane County Fair Parade. The Parade starts at 10:15am. We hope you can join us and celebrate a wonderful community that continues to support the Spokane Lilac Festival.
A reminder that our VP's of Royalty are hard at work prepping for our 2020 year. Royalty Orientation meetings will be held later in the Fall. If you know of any high school senior women interested, let them know to check out our
website
or contact their school's Lilac Coordinator for more information.
