2021 Peay Chardonnay
West Sonoma Coast, California
~~~~~~~~~~~
West Sonoma Coast became an official AVA in May 2022 and - while it is not reflected in the old label photo that we have here - this is Peay's first bottling to wear the new designation.
Like Peay's 2021 Pinot Noirs, this estate-grown 2021 Chardonnay is special. If it represents the future of this 19th AVA of Sonoma County, we are all in!
"The 2021 Chardonnay West Sonoma Coast is a bright youthful hue and delivers elegant aromas of fresh flowers, white peaches, sea spray, and soft floral citrus. Medium-bodied, it displays good roundness and delicate spice, with fresh saline minerality, Meyer lemon, and ripe pear. It’s supple and inviting, with a good, refreshing feel, and touch of almond on the finish. Drink it over the next 10 years. This is the first vintage with the appellation printed on the label."
- 96 Points, Jeb Dunnuck (7/21/2023)
"Now utilizing the recently approved West Sonoma Coast appellation (the label used to simply read 'Sonoma Coast'), the 2021 Chardonnay West Sonoma Coast has fresh, pure aromas of red apple, bread dough, jasmine and almonds. The light-bodied palate is focused and energetic, with a pleasurable, balancing creaminess to the texture and a long, biscuity finish. Drink Date: 2023 - 2030."
- 92 Points, Wine Advocate (6/15/2023)
"The 2021 Peay West Sonoma Coast Chardonnay needs a fair bit of swirling to unlock notes of fresh, crunchy peaches, Bosc pears, and lemon curd, with hints of coriander seed, beeswax, and chalk dust. The medium-bodied palate is energetic and zippy, with bright, crunchy fruit and a lively backbone, finishing long and chalky. Drinking: 2023 - 2027."
- 93 Points, The Wine Independent (7/25/2023)
The median online retail is $58. As usual, our price is less. We have a limited supply that we expect Chardonnay purists will snatch up fast!
2021 Peay "Savoy Vineyard" Pinot Noir
Anderson Valley, California
~~~~~~~~~~~
When brothers Nick and Andy Peay founded their eponymous winery, they knew that low yields in the demanding climate of their new vineyard would force them to source some fruit. They chose wisely with Savoy Vineyard, and this is the only non-estate wine made by Peay Vineyards.
Winemaker, and Nick's wife, Vanessa Wong readily captures the Peay style using the fruit from this renowned Anderson Valley vineyard. Our mouths are watering reading through the captivating acclaim...
"The 2021 Pinot Noir Savoy pours a ripe ruby and delivers notes of bright cherry, peppery spice, and roses. Medium-bodied, it has fine-grained tannins and a fresh spine of acidity, with notes of more pure red fruit, crunchy earth, and cinnamon. It is the only wine in this lineup that’s not made from estate fruit. Drink: 2025-2045."
- 96 Points, Jeb Dunnuck (7/21/2023)
"The 2021 Pinot Noir Savoy Vineyard has deep aromas of raspberry and redcurrant, aniseed, mushroom, earth and lavender. The medium-bodied palate echoes the generosity and layering of the nose, offering concentrated flavor layers and loads of earthy accents. It has a chalky frame, seamless acidity and a very long, layered finish. It's drinking beautifully straight from the bottle. Drink Date: 2023 - 2033."
- 95 Points, Wine Advocate (6/15/2023)
"The 2021 Peay Savoy Vineyard Pinot Noir is a non-estate wine. It is pale ruby-purple in color and needs a little swirling to bring out notes of black cherries, black raspberries, and lilacs, leading to wafts of mossy tree bark, fertile loam, and menthol. The medium-bodied palate shimmers with electric black fruit and wonderful tension, framed by velvety tannins, finishing long and layered. Drinking: 2024 - 2034."
- 95 Points, The Wine Independent (7/25/2023)
Wines from this vaunted vineyard can range as high as $140 per bottle. At $75.99, this one is in the sweet spot for Pinot Noir lovers!

2021 Peay "Pomarium" Pinot Noir
Sonoma Coast, California
~~~~~~~~~~~
Pomarium represents the more muscular style of Pinot Noir at Peay. The artistry and balance achieved by winemaker Vanessa Wong are quite impressive. We shouldn't be surprised given her pedigree of making wine at Peter Michael, Lafite-Rothschild and Domaine Jean Gros in Vosne-Romanée.
Wine Advocate and Lisa Perrotti-Brown's The Wine Independent think this is one special Pinot Noir. Jeb goes a step further and believes it is as close to perfect as you get!
"The 2021 Pinot Noir Pomarium. is packed with notes of black cherry liqueur and kirsch, pure ripe fruit, a touch of sage, and sweet earth. It’s more grounded and muscular, with ripe, broad tannins, and has great depth as well as a grounded nature, with good fruit throughout. Drink over 2026-2046."
- 99 Points, Jeb Dunnuck (7/23/2023)
"The 2021 Peay Pomarium Estate Pinot Noir has a medium ruby-purple color. On the nose earthy notes of charcoal, tree bark, black truffles, and loam lead to a core of black raspberries, fresh blackberries, and wild blueberries, plus wafts of violets and cardamom. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is built like a brick house, delivering firm, very fine-grained tannins and compelling tension to support the muscular fruit, finishing long, with loads of mineral sparks. Drinking: 2024 - 2034."
- 96+ Points, The Wine Independent (7/25/2023)
"The 2021 Estate Pinot Noir Pomarium is notable this vintage for its balance of concentrated fruit and vibrant freshness. Its broody scents of cranberry sauce, mushroom and conifer give way to licorice and Angostura bitters as it spends time in the glass. Its concentrated flavors defy its youthfully reluctant aromas, offering wave after wave of perfumed fruit. It has a fine, chalky frame and focused acidity that drives its long, layered finish. It drinks beautifully straight from the bottle, but it may have more to offer in another 3-5 years. Drink Date: 2025 - 2035."
- 97 Points, Wine Advocate (6/15/2023)
A 99-Point wine at this price is amazing. The fact that it is California Pinot Noir makes it even better. Don't blink, this one will be gone fast!
