Relationships Trump Everything

Discovering What Matters Most

Here's How We Know

Relationships Trump Everything

That's What God Created Us For

Jesus was always being tested by the political elite of his day which was the Pharisees and Sadducees and while they argued about a lot of things still worked together to undermine Him as he was gaining a following that threatened them.

This is just one occasion where one of their experts in the law ask Him what the greatest commandment was in another effort to trip him up.

I hope you will see his answer as this is how we know for sure

that Relationships Trump Everything!

This is one of the most profound summaries of all Scripture.

Every command God gives ultimately flows from these two relationships:

  1. Our vertical relationship with God — Love God completely.

  1. Our horizontal relationship with people — Love others as ourselves.

Jesus combined these two Old Testament commands when He answered the question about the greatest commandment.

  1. Deuteronomy 6:5 (NIV)

"Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength."

This comes from the Shema (Deuteronomy 6:4–9), one of the most important passages in Judaism, calling God's people to wholehearted devotion to Him.

2. Leviticus 19:18 (NIV)

"Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against anyone among your people but love your neighbor as yourself. I am the LORD."

This command appears in a chapter devoted to holy living and right relationships with others.

The Greatest Commandment

Matthew 22:34-40 (NIV)

34 Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees got together.

35 One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question:

36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”

37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’[a]

38 This is the first and greatest commandment.

39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’[b]

40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

"People rarely remember what you achieved.

They remember how you treated them.

They remember whether you cared."

Our Mission, Purpose and Why

Blessings to You and Your Families,
