cranesCustomer Spotlight - Raising Cane's

Raising Cane's Chicken Fingers (also called Raising Cane's) is a fast-food restaurant chain specializing in chicken fingers, that was founded in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, by Todd Graves and Craig Silvey. The company has 436 restaurants in 27 states in the United States, plus an additional 22 restaurants in the Middle East. The Raising Cane's story is one of vision, entrepreneurship, and perseverance.

Todd Graves first started dreaming of his own restaurant in the early 1990s. Craig Silvey, an initial partner in Todd's plan, was enrolled in a business plan writing course at LSU at the time. They wrote the business plan and Silvey turned it in, for which Silvey received a "B-". Although the business plan was rejected numerous times by potential investors, Graves set out to earn the money he needed to start the restaurant, first by working in refineries in California, then by fishing for sockeye salmon in Alaska. He and Silvey then obtained an SBA loan, which they used to open the first restaurant in Baton Rouge.

Todd Graves started his business with a focus on charity and giving back to their communities. Approximately 25% of profit is given back to communities, which focuses particularly on education, feeding the homeless, animal welfare, healthy lifestyles, and business development.

Todd and his Raising Cane's team are big supporters of Lemonade Day and have been since 2011. Entrepreneurship is at the heart of the Raising Cane's story and so is giving back.

She notes that all activity counts and suggests thinking about what we do during the day, and build in ways to increase your movement. Some of her suggestions include:

Keep track of your steps. If you have a smartphone, download a free app that will help you monitor how many steps and miles you travel on foot each day.
Make shopping count. Get some mileage out of your shopping trip to Publix by parking farther away from the store. Take an extra walk through the grocery aisles before you check out.

Take the stairs. If you work several floors up, opt for the stairs rather than wait for the elevator. Or take a few laps around your office after lunch.
Play outside. Make your family time active. Go on a long Sunday stroll. Take your dog on regular walks through the neighborhood. Play ball with your children in the yard or at a park.

Be creative and discover new ways to get more activity into your daily routine. You'll be well on your way to achieving greater balance in your life. Once you start to move, it's hard to stop!
