Lincoln Prairie Trail opens

Secretary Biagi and IDOT joined officials from the communities of Pana and Taylorville and the Lincoln Prairie Trails Conservancy to celebrate the opening of a bridge that completes a gap in the Lincoln Prairie Trail.

Employee Spotlight: Acting District 9 Geometrics Engineer Sean Greenlee 

Acting District 9 Geometrics Engineer Sean Greenlee has spent more than 20 years with IDOT, serving in positions ranging from studies and plans engineer to studies and plans squad leader to his current role.

Region 2, District 2: New entrance ramps to northbound and southbound Interstate 39 opened July 24 as part of the reconstruction of the I-39 and U.S. 20/Harrison Avenue interchange in Cherry Valley from a cloverleaf to a diverging-diamond design. Work will now focus on constructing the exit ramps to U.S. 20/Harrison Avenue from I-39. 

 

The $44.2 million interchange project is part of a larger $302 million, multiyear project made possible by Gov. JB Pritzker’s Rebuild Illinois capital program to improve I-39 between the U.S. 20/Harrison Avenue interchange and Blackhawk Road in Cherry Valley and Rockford. Most of the interchange project is scheduled to be complete by the end of the year, with some final touch-up work to be completed in spring 2026. 


Region 4, District 6: A 3-mile resurfacing project is underway on Veterans Parkway (Illinois 4) from Prairie Crossing to Greenbriar Drive, in Springfield, began July 14. Other work includes sidewalk ramp improvements. 

 

The nearly $9 million project is expected to be completed by the end of August. 


Letting Update

 

Aug. 1 is the next letting for statewide construction projects that are scheduled in 2025. Bids can be submitted until 11:59 a.m. that day, but are shut down at noon.


Sept. 19 is the following letting for statewide construction projects that are scheduled in 2025. Here are some dates to note in advance of the letting. 

 

  • Aug. 15 at 10 a.m. Transportation Bulletin release (Official advertisement of projects
  • Aug. 29 at 4:30 p.m. Prequalification cutoff (Date that contractors must be qualified to bid on contracts.)
  • Sept. 12 at 4:30 p.m. Joint venture cutoff (three contractor limit. Date for these groups who want to bid can do so).   
  • Sept. 16 at 4:30 p.m. Request for authorization to bid cutoff (Final date for contractors who are authorized to bid on contracts). 
  • Sept. 19 at noon Letting (Bids can be submitted until 11:59 a.m. on the day. Bids are shut down at noon).
