December 2023
LINK TO HOPE NEWSLETTER
Greetings from the Executive Director - Melissa Karrer
Hi Friends,

It was a wonderful month of November taking time to remember all that we are thankful for. December brings on reflection over the past year and the anticipation for what 2024 may bring.

I'd like to ask if you would consider helping us to finish the year strong through donations as you consider your end of year giving options. We cannot sustain and serve the thousands of Kentuckians we do each year without the help of our community.

Right before Thanksgiving we had the opportunity to work with a young mother with breast cancer that was worried about being able to provide gifts for Christmas for her 2 children. "It's not their fault I'm sick," she said. We were able to help her with some of her short-term financial needs as well as connect with other community resources. We also connected her with a local bible study group that had just reached out looking for an opportunity to serve a family this Christmas. My wish is that she is able to find rest this Christmas and see the smile on her children's faces as they open their gifts on Christmas morning and have some hope.

"Hope and fear cannot occupy the same space. Invite one to stay." - Maya Angelou

Thank you so much for following along with our mission. Let's continue our goal to be a link to hope to Kentuckians in need.

Cheers,

Melissa

Thank You!

Thank you to Lexington Catholic High School's Service Club for their recent donation of $147.00 to help provide wigs and headwear to patients experiencing hair loss due to treatment related side-effects. The funds were generated from a bake sale they hosted.

Meet our Board
Board Member: Bridget Murphy

Bridget Murphy, a retired elementary school teacher, has proudly served on the board at KY CancerLink for the past 11 years.

Her initial introduction to the organization was in 2012 when KY CancerLink was adopted as the state project for the General Federation of Women’s Clubs in KY.

Following the loss of her mother to ovarian cancer in the Spring of 2012, Mrs. Murphy made a commitment to become more involved and do more to support the mission of KY CancerLink.

Delicious Ideas!
Cheesy Pull Apart Christmas Tree Appetizer

This appetizer is easy & delicious plus, it's cute!

Your guests will be impressed with your culinary skills not knowing you only used a few simple ingredients to curate this tasty treat.

By using string cheese & store-bought pizza dough, you'll be able to provide an easy & delicious appetizer, in no time at all, which leaves you with more time to visit with your guests.

Easy Sheet Pan
Christmas Dinner

Nobody likes to spend hours in the kitchen washing dishes after a holiday meal & this easy sheet pan dinner is the perfect solution to that.

This recipe is great for a small gathering and feeds approximately four people.

With just one sheet pan and about 20 minutes of preparation, you'll have a delicious meal on the table and happy guests.

Healthy Peppermint Mocha

One of my favorite flavors and aromas of the holiday season is peppermint. It's invigorating, refreshing, and brings such joy.

This is a healthier version of the beloved drink that so many of us look forward to each year.

This recipe uses maple syrup to sweeten and cocoa powder or you can sub cacao powder (I find mine at Trader Joe's) for a boost of rich antioxidants.

WKYT - Link to Hope
Each month on WKYT, a Link to Hope story is featured with Amber Philpott.

Most recently, Amber interviewed a lung cancer survivor who has been an integral part in raising the level of awareness of lung cancer in Central KY and beyond, and working diligently to erase the stigma that is, so often, associated with a lung cancer diagnosis.
