January 2024
LINK TO HOPE NEWSLETTER
Greetings from the Executive Director - Melissa Karrer
Hi Friends,

Happy New Year!! The Kentucky CancerLink team is looking forward to a great 2024!

We have two events in the beginning of the year that you won't want to miss! Check out information below about the Link to Hope Tennis/Pickleball event on February 23rd and the Quarter Horse Marathon Relay in partnership with RaceRise on March 30th. These are great opportunities to participate with partners to get into the community and spread the word about our mission.

We want to make sure that everyone knows about our programs & resources available. The most heartbreaking thing that I hear is "I wish I had known about the organization when...."

Help us spread the word by getting involved in our events and share posts on social media. We don't want to be the best kept secret in Kentucky!

Thank you so much for following along with our mission. Let's continue our goal to be a link to hope to Kentuckians in need.

Cheers,

Melissa

Out and About
Several Kentucky CancerLink staff & board members volunteered their time, and culinary skills, on Dec.12, to serve dinner to guests staying at Lexington's American Cancer Society Hope Lodge, a free lodging resource for patients traveling 40 miles or more and who are receiving cancer treatment in the Lexington area. It was a great night and we're already looking forward to serving again.
Melissa & Melanie spent the day, on Dec. 14, networking with our colleagues at the 2023 Markey Cancer Center Affiliate Network Cancer Care Conference in downtown Lexington. We look forward to this event each year & we are grateful for the opportunity to serve Markey patients alongside so many other wonderful community partners.
KCL staff had the opportunity to take part in a self-care mini session from Trillium Health and Restoration Health Coach & Physical Therapist, Michelle Wiesner at a recent staff meeting.

Be sure to check out our December Link to Hope segment on WKYT to learn more.
KCL staff took some time to celebrate the season together, the week before Christmas, with a brunch potluck, a gift exchange, and a few reindeer games for fun. We're looking forward to a new year with new opportunities to serve Kentuckians.

Delicious Ideas!

Golden Milk

We've shared this recipe before but it's so delicious,
it's worth repeating.

Golden milk is the perfect warm drink on a cold winter day (or night) and it's packed with anti-inflammatory properties from the turmeric and other warming spices.

It's caffeine free, vegan, and paleo and it's the perfect
treat before bedtime.

Greek Chicken Meatballs

This delicious recipe is light yet incredibly filling and satisfying. It's dairy-free, gluten-free, and whole30 & paleo friendly too.

This is a great recipe to keep on rotation when meal prepping or for a quick weeknight meal.

There's a delightful homemade tzatziki sauce recipe included as well.

Cottage Cheese
Pizza Bowls

I'm happy to see that cottage cheese is getting its moment in the spotlight.

Love it or loathe it, cottage cheese is a great source of protein and a delicious and healthy way to fuel your body.

This cottage cheese pizza bowl is a healthier alternative for a beloved favorite food of many. You can use as many or as few ingredients as you wish to suit your taste.

WKYT - Link to Hope
Each month on WKYT, a Link to Hope story is featured with Amber Philpott.

Most recently, Amber stopped by the KY CancerLink office where our staff had the opportunity to participate in a mini self-care session from Health Coach & Physical Therapist, Michelle Wiesner of Trillium Health & Restoration.
