A message from the Executive Director - Melissa Karrer
Hi Friends,

They say time flies when you're having fun and May proved to be a busy month that flew by quickly.

This past Sunday, June 2nd, was a day of recognition for cancer survivors, caregivers, and advocates for National Cancer Survivors Day 2024. It's a special day of support and celebration for those in the cancer survivor community and is a meaningful day for me personally.

We're grateful for the opportunity to support those affected by a cancer diagnosis daily and we're very proud of the impact we're making in the lives of Kentuckians. Since January 1, 2024, we've served 1,301 unique patients with 2,155 services in 106 counties!

Looking ahead, we're just a few months away from our 10th Annual Links to Hope Golf Scramble at Keene Trace Golf Course - Champions Trace on Monday, September 16. We still have sponsorship opportunities (Lunch, Prize, and Beverage) available and a few team spots left. Reach out and we'll get you connected for this great event! Every bit helps us make an impact to be able to serve Kentuckians. And this is a fun way to do it!

If you are ever in Lexington, feel free to stop by 2425 Regency Road. Our staff would love to show you around and answer any questions you have about our mission! We are in the process of creating a virtual tour!

Thanks for following along and joining us we continue to work together to be a link to hope to Kentuckians!

Cheers,

Melissa

Out and About
Melanie attended the KEMI employee health & wellness event on May 8th in downtown Lexington to offer cancer screening information and to educate participants on how KCL can support those facing a cancer diagnosis. Let us know if your place of business is hosting a wellness event. We love opportunities to educate & raise awareness.
Melanie attended a health screening fair at the Lexington Senior Center on May 9th. There were lots of great conversations around cancer screenings and guidelines. We love being a link to hope to Kentuckians.
Melanie attended the Harrison County Community Health Fair hosted by Harrison Memorial Hospital on May 30th. It was a wonderful event and a great opportunity to educate individuals on options for cancer screenings, especially at home OC Light FIT kits for colon cancer screenings & also KCL resources for those affected by cancer.
Melanie attended UK's Expressions of Courage cancer survivor celebration on Friday, May 31 at Kroger Field in Lexington. It was a wonderful day to celebrate & honor cancer survivors for their incredible strength, resilience, and courage in the face of adversity. Each patient's story is a true testament of hope. We are honored to attend this event each year and always look forward to it.
Meet our Board
Aaron J Kruse-Diehr, PhD, is an associate professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine in the University of Kentucky College of Medicine and full member of the Markey Cancer Center.

He conducts research related to improving colorectal cancer screening among vulnerable populations in both clinical and community settings and has partnered with Kentucky CancerLink for screening and navigation services across multiple research projects.

When approached about joining the KCL board, Aaron was overwhelmingly happy to lend his knowledge and expertise to help KCL achieve its mission, and he hopes he can leverage this new role to help facilitate more collaborative opportunities between Markey researchers and KCL staff on funded research projects.

Delicious Ideas
Sheet Pan Greek Chicken

Sheet pan dinners are so delicious and easy to prepare. Throw all the ingredients on one pan and you'll have a complete meal in mere minutes leaving you extra time to visit with your guests or kick your feet up and rest for a bit.

I love using recipes as a guide, so feel free to use your favorites in place of whatever is listed if you wish. Either way, it's sure to be a hit.

Smashed Baby Carrots

These zesty ranch baby carrots are a delicious treat for a side dish or an appetizer and using only 4 ingredients, it's super easy to make.

Your family will be asking you to add this to your list of favorite recipes for sure.

Carrots are loaded with beta-carotene, vitamin C, and fiber, just a few cancer-fighting nutrients.

Dole Whip Popsicles

This recipe is a twist on the refreshing Dole Whip made famous at Disney theme parks.

Add all the ingredients in a blender and pour into popsicle molds for a delicious summer treat for a fraction of the cost of store-bought popsicles and without all the extra ingredients.

Pineapple contains enzymes that can protect against inflammation and may help reduce cancer risk.
