LINK TO HOPE NEWSLETTER

A message from the Executive Director - Melissa Karrer

Hi Friends,

Hello September! I'll admit, we are heading into my favorite season of all. One of my best friends holds on to summer with both hands, but I am hands free and ready for crisp mornings and cool evenings, Fall colors, and a cozy sweatshirt. Lots of change coming in the next few weeks.

Something that never changes here, however, is the commitment to compassion and support for cancer patients in Kentucky as we continue to break down barriers to care with hope and understanding. Whether it is helping find the perfect wig, providing a gas card that helps get to treatment, or connecting to a lifesaving cancer screening, we are thankful to be able to help and could not do the work without your continued support of our mission.

We love to share inspiring stories of resilience from patients we’ve worked with through heartfelt testimonials like the one you'll see in our most recent Link to Hope story, in partnership with WKYT. This month's segment highlights a brave woman for whom we were able to provide a beautiful wig that helped her to feel whole again.

We encourage you to stay engaged with us—whether by participating in our upcoming events, contributing to our mission, or just following our social media posts.

Thank you for reading and your consideration to walk alongside our mission to be a link to hope for Kentuckians.

Cheers,

Melissa

WKYT - Link to Hope

Each month on WKYT, a Link to Hope story is featured with Amber Philpott.

Our most recent story features Michelle Jones, recently diagnosed with breast cancer, and the message she shares in hopes to encourage other women, especially women of color, to make screenings a priority.

Meet Our Intern

Emily Lambert

Where are you from?  I am from Mount Washington, Kentucky! It is a semi-small town, that is constantly growing, about 20 minutes south of Louisville. I have lived there my whole life and love my little “small” town.

What is your major?  I am going to be graduating school with a Bachelor of Health Sciences, pursuing a career in Clinical Leadership and Management.

What are your plans after graduation? After graduation, my plans are not fully intact yet. However, I know that I would like to go home and spend time with my family and friends. With that, I plan on getting my master's degree and looking for a long-term career job down the line.

What do you hope to learn from your internship at KCL? There are many things that I am hoping to take away from this job. I know that with this amazing opportunity I am going to have the chance to learn many amazing things and I am so grateful to even get the chance to be a part of the team. I want to learn everything that is going to be taught to me, and I cannot wait to see where it takes me.

What is your favorite part of Kentucky? I love the state of Kentucky as a whole. The beauty and nature of the state is enough to say on its own. I have been to many beautiful places within this state and have been blessed to see so many of the wonderful creations. My favorite place to travel to would have to be Cumberland Falls located in Corbin, Kentucky. The calmness and beauty of the State Park is something that will always be breathtaking to me.

Delicious Ideas

Apple Pie Overnight Oats

Overnight oats are one of my favorite ways to break my fast. With a couple of minutes of prep time the night before, you'll wake up to a delicious healthy way to fuel your body and start your day off right.

I like to warm them for a few seconds in the microwave first, but they are delicious either way.

Apple Nachos

This is a fun way to get your fruit serving in and a dollop of any type of nut butter provides some protein that will help keep you full.

You can add toppings if you want like coconut, chocolate chips, or cinnamon. Pro tip-warming the nut butter first for a few seconds is a game changer.

Apple Pie Muffins

This recipe is gluten, dairy, and refined sugar free and full of flavor.

These muffins are moist & sweet and have a crunchy topping with lots of apple chunks.

These are perfect to throw in in a lunchbox or enjoy as a snack.
