LinkedIn Job Posting Scam
On October 21, scammers unlawfully gained access to Catherine's email account and subsequently, her LinkedIn account. They set up a fake LinkedIn job ad and sent fake offer letters to candidates with further instructions to purchase equipment for training. Catherine and Brooke started receiving some odd emails and phone calls about this job posting on November 7 and worked to uncover the scam.
Catherine and Brooke personally contacted over 100 people who were targets of the scam. No one actually followed through with the scammer's requests, but they did provide Catherine and Brooke with copies of their communications and fake checks received. Reports have been filed to the Lincoln County Sheriff's Department, the FTC and the FBI.
