A Walk on the Wild Side: MassIPL Meditative Hike at Julia Bird Reservation
Saturday, April 25 | 9am–Noon | Ipswich, MA | MassIPL
Sometimes, the most resilient thing we can do is discover a path to spirituality in nature. Join MassIPL for a gentle 2-mile morning hike through Julia Bird Reservation — 59 acres of mature oak, red maple, old-growth hemlocks, and vernal pools coming alive with spring. This isn't just a walk in the woods, but a guided, contemplative experience with time for reflection, silence, and conversation across traditions.
This is the first event in what we hope will be a new series: connecting multi-faith spiritual practices with ecological consciousness through time in nature.
Our guide is Kent Harrop, founder of North Shore SING (Spirituality in Nature Group) and recently retired pastor, who will draw our attention to the landscape around us while weaving in prompts for meditation and group discussion. Our focus: Deepening Oneness with Earth and the Divine.

Sometimes
I go about in pity for myself
While I am carried by
The wind
Across the sky.
— Chippewa Song

I have come to terms with the future.
From this day onward I will walk
easy on the earth. Plant trees.
Kill no living things. Live in harmony
with all creatures. I will restore the earth
where I am. Use no more of its resources
than I need. And listen, listen to
what it is telling me.
— M.J. Slim Hooey
