This month we have been hosting members from our community in our Lion Learning sessions to share information with our communities. I know families have busy schedules, so I wanted to take a moment to highlight some of the information we've been sharing.
Tax Mailer
One Lion Learning session focused on explaining the county’s tax mailer sent to local residents. This mailing included a proposed six cent increase in property taxes for residents in the Linn-Mar school district. If the amount of state aid provided by the legislature meets our budgetary needs, the district may decide to lessen this tax rate. Because state aid had not been determined by the time the mailing was required to be sent out to residents, Linn-Mar included the highest potential increase that could be levied by the district in the mailer information to ensure the district has adequate funding to support its budget for the 2025-26 academic year.
Sharing Concepts for High School Construction, Improvements
We also hosted Lion Learning "On the Road," a series of opportunities to preview design and construction concepts to address activity and athletic needs at our high school. There is one additional "On the Road" learning session on this topic scheduled for Tuesday, April 8 from 5:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. in the Linn-Mar High School cafeteria. Please join us to tour our current high school facilities and see architectural drawings of how the district might reimagine our indoor activity spaces and other related areas. (If you can't make this date, we have a recording of a previous session available online.)
Separately, I wanted to share that this month our families with students in grades 3-12 will be emailed information related to a Conditions for Learning survey. This survey helps us understand the needs of our students and how we can improve their educational experience. Please note that we will only give the survey to students whose parents or guardians have actively consented to having the survey given to their children. Families will receive an email on April 4 explaining how to provide their consent for their students to participate in this survey.
We look forward to warmer weather as we head into the last few months of the school year!
