Anticipating the New Year

This afternoon we'll have an early dismissal, then head into winter break and say farewell to 2024! Before we close the year, we wanted to reflect on the many successes we've enjoyed along the way. We have been celebrating our district's classroom successes, artistic showcases, and club and athletic achievements over the past few months, and we'll use some space in this final newsletter of the calendar year to point out some highlights you might have missed.

When we return in January, we will head into finals week at our high school and wrap up the second quarter for all of our students. The start of a new year brings more opportunities ahead, and I hope our students return in January with renewed energy and optimism for what lies ahead.

On behalf of all of us at Linn-Mar Community School District, I wish you a peaceful season and a happy, healthy New Year. Thank you for entrusting us with your children and for being an integral part of our school community.

Superintendent Amy Kortemeyer

Coming in January: Preschool, Junior Kindergarten and Kindergarten Pre-Registration

This year Linn-Mar Community School District will invite families to learn more about its early childhood programs at special events in January!

Our district will continue to offer three early childhood learning options to families free of charge, and those programs include Little Lions Preschool, Junior Kindergarten, and Kindergarten.

This year the district also will ask preschool parents about their interest in a new potential initiative. Based on the interest of our families, the district may offer on-site daycare before and after school at one preschool site for a limited number of Little Lions families. If offered, daycare would be limited to 20 families in this first year, with the district then evaluating the program as we look at potentially offering it again in the future. To be clear, Little Lions has been and will continue to be offered at no cost, and if the district elected to offer wraparound care, this daycare option would be available at one preschool site by a contracted provider for an additional fee.

As this is a potential pilot program, the district will be using a pre-registration process to gauge parent interest in participating in wraparound daycare. This pre-registration process will be available to parents when the district hosts Roar Like a Lion pre-registration open houses at all of its elementary buildings in January.

Introducing Venture Early Explorers

Venture Early Explorers will be held in a remodeled space in the former Learning Resource Center.

Venture Academics, Linn-Mar High School's project-based learning program, will be launching the "Exploring Education" strand in the spring semester of 2025.

Embedded in Exploring Education will be an opportunity for participating high school students to apply their skills in a new learning environment for three-year-old children called Venture Early Explorers.
