Sid the Serpent is Coming to Linn-Mar!

Thanks to a grant from the Linn-Mar Foundation, Sid the Serpent is coming to all seven Linn-Mar elementary schools later this month.

The musical production is presented by OPERA Iowa. It's part of the Des Moines Metro Opera.

Kindergarten Registration Night is Monday, March 20th from 5:00 to 6:30 PM. The evening is for parents who are interested in enrolling their child in Kindergarten or Jr. Kindergarten for the 2023-2024 school year.

If you are unsure of where your neighborhood school is located, please follow this link to the Linn County Public Schools Attendance Areas website to learn more.

You are encouraged to bring proof of residence and the child’s birth certificate/proof of birth.

Parents will have the opportunity to visit kindergarten classrooms and tour the building.

Staff will be available to answer questions or assist with online registration.

Please share this information with friends or neighbors who have kindergarten-age students.

Students must be 5 years old on or before September 15, 2023, for Kindergarten enrollment.

Superintendent Search

The results are in!

Here are the four most common characteristics you want in our next superintendent, as determined by the stakeholder survey conducted in February.

Communication/ strengths in leadership
Focus on student achievement and experience
Support teachers/retain and recruit high quality
Leadership through the Strategic Plan/do what’s best for students.

The board hopes to select the next superintendent in late March to allow for a smooth transition in leadership.

Our current superintendent, Mr. Shannon Bisgard, is retiring in June.

“The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time” will take the stage Wednesday and Thursday night at 7 in the Linn-Mar High School Little Theatre.

Tickets are $5.00 at the Door.

Students with Activity Passes are admitted free.

National Ceramics Award

The Linn-Mar Art Department proudly announces that Lilly Glowacki won a spot in the National K12 Ceramic show!

Lilly's cat sculpture "Lucky" was selected for the show and will be displayed in Cincinnati, Ohio March 15- 17th.

Coach of the Year

Andy Strottman was named the Iowa Football Coaches Association (IFCA) Don Taft Memorial Junior High Coach of the Year in Class 5A.

He has been the 7th-grade head coach at Linn-Mar for 24 years.

It's the Friday before Spring Break.

It's a Teacher Comp Day.

Spring Break is March 13-17.

Jazz Ensemble Advances

The Colton Center Jazz Ensemble earned a 1st place finish at the NEIBA Jazz Festival in Waterloo.

Tejas Gururaja earned an Honorable mention solo award for violin.

They earned an automatic invitation to perform at the Iowa Jazz Championships in Ames in April.

10th Street Edition Heading to National Show Choir Event

As the Show Choir season comes to a close, for 10th Street Edition, the season is not yet over. They have been invited and will travel to Nashville for the “Show Choir Nationals” on the stage of the Grand ‘Ole Opry on March 24 and 25.
