District Payroll/Benefits staff will be mailing W-2s, 1095-C forms, and OBBB (Overtime Notices) next week to each building for employees who elected to receive a paper copy, including:

  • Substitutes
  • Transportation and O&M employees
  • Aquatic Center employees
  • Employees who worked overtime in 2025
  • Terminated employees

Employees who are not on this list who also would like to request a paper copy, can email Payroll@linnmar.k12.ia.us.

Common W-2 Questions:

Please review the following information carefully, as it may assist you or your tax preparer:

IPERS and 403(b) Contributions:

  • These contributions are not taxable for Federal or State purposes. This is the most common reason Federal wages do not match Social Security or Medicare wages.

Health, Dental, and Vision Premiums:

  • These premiums are deducted pre-tax, so they cannot also be claimed as a deduction on your tax return. Premium amounts do not appear under Federal, State, Social Security, or Medicare wages. They may appear in Box 14 for informational purposes only.

Overtime Wages (OBBB):

  • Overtime wages that are eligible for OBBB reporting will be included in Box 14 of your W-2 for informational purposes. Employees with eligible overtime wages will receive an additional notice with information about the OBBB.

Box 12 – Code DD:

  • Any amount reported in Box 12 labeled DD reflects the total cost of health insurance premiums paid by both the employee and employer. This amount is for government reporting only and does not impact your tax return.

Upcoming Events

Performance Hall Ribbon Cutting February 4

Staff are encouraged to join our Linn-Mar community at the district's new performance hall for a celebration on Wednesday, February 4. The event will begin with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, brief remarks and a student performance at 4:30 p.m. The hall will be open for self-guided tours until 6:00 p.m.

We hope to see you there!

What are we calling the new space?

Throughout the construction process we consistently referred to this new space as a performance venue. With construction complete we will now refer to this new space as the district's performance hall.

Early Childhood Pre-Registration Enrollment Opens Today

All families interested in enrolling a child in Little Lions Preschool, Junior Kindergarten, or Kindergarten will be invited to a Pre-Registration Open House on Thursday, January 15 from 4:30–5:30 pm.

This event is an opportunity for adults to visit their neighborhood school, meet building principals, take a brief tour of the building, and begin the pre-registration process for their child’s 2026–27 school year.

Do you know someone looking to join Linn-Mar? This handout can help our friends and neighbors differentiate between these early childhood programs.

Updates to Linn-Mar Website Navigation Coming February 24

We’re excited to share that the district will roll out an updated layout for its website navigation on February 24, 2026.

You can preview the new navigation here.

This updated navigation is based on website best practices from school districts around the state, and is being updated to help make it easier for users to find the information they need when visiting our website.

The district will continue capturing feedback and data after this new navigation is in place. Our plan is to use that information to help guide future enhancements as we consider other ways to improve the website and district communications.

If you have feedback on the new navigation, please share it with Renee Nelson in Communications.

Weather Cancelations and Delays

It's that time of year when our schedules may shift due to weather delays or closures. Please review our late arrival / early release / no school procedures if you have questions about expectations for your position during these events. Additional information about weather situations is available for our community on our website as well.

Summary from Board Meeting

2026-27 and 2027-28 School Calendars Approved

The school calendars for 2026-27 and 2027-28 were approved by the Linn-Mar Board of Directors Monday night.

The state requires schools to start the school year no sooner than Aug. 23 each year. With this start date in mind, the calendar committee then examines each year to determine where to place breaks, holidays, and professional learning days. Our district's calendar committee also gathers staff feedback to help make its recommendations to the school board. In summary:

2026-27 Calendar Summary

  • This calendar was originally approved by the board in January of 2025.
  • The version approved Monday evening included moving a teacher comp day to the end of the year so that teachers would not be required to stay two days after the end of the student school year.
  • There was no change to student attendance days from the version that was approved in 2025.

2027-28 Calendar Summary

  • This calendar also shifted a teacher comp day to the end of the year as was recommended for the 2026-27 calendar.
  • This calendar shortens winter break in 2027-28 and balances the days in quarters in order for teachers and students to be done with the school year before Memorial Day.
  • Note- This decision will be discussed by the calendar committee each year due to changes every few years based on where the winter holidays fall in the week.

Thank you to the calendar committee and staff for providing feedback.

Optional Wrap Daycare Available At Linn Grove and Echo Hill for 2026-27 Preschool

Linn-Mar Community School District will partner with Hand in Hand Early Care & Education Center to provide preschool wraparound daycare services at both Echo Hill and Linn Grove Elementary for the 2026-27 school year.

Families must be enrolled in Little Lions preschool and have accepted a placement at either the Linn Grove or Echo Hill site before registering with Hand in Hand Early Care and Education Center for wraparound care at that preschool location.  While preschool has been and continues to be free, this optional service is available to families for an additional fee.

Search Firm Retained to Help Hire New Superintendent

During Monday’s meeting the Linn-Mar Board of Directors retained a search firm, Grundmeyer Leader Services, to guide the district through the search for Linn-Mar’s next superintendent.

As part of this process, the search firm will be collecting feedback from our staff, students, families, and community members about our district and about the qualities the district is looking for in our next superintendent. A link to the survey is available here. The survey will close Sunday, January. 25.

Summer Facility Projects Approved

Several construction projects, some that have been in discussion for years, are moving forward this summer including those projects listed above at Oak Ridge, Indian Creek, Echo Hill and Boulder Peak.

Staff Snapshots

Nick Martens and members of our IT team visited Hazel Point and Boulder Peak in December to help our students understand how to responsibly use their school-issued devices.

The district snapped a photo of some of our O&M team members before winter break, including Joseph Kame, Chris Talcott, Nick Kruger, Zach Cooper, Jami Entas, Andy Parke, Nick Weber, Greg Lake, Drew Keppler, Casey Adams and Bryce Parke.
