LinnStrument OS 2.3.4 Released

Last month, Geert and I released a beta version of the forthcoming LinnStrument OS version 2.3.4. No one found any problems, so it's now an official release. To download and install it, visit the LinnStrument Support page and click Updating Software.

This official release is the same file as the 2.3.4 Beta. If you installed the Beta, you already have the official release, so there's no need to download and install it again.

In addition to bug fixes, 2.3.4 includes a new feature called Low Row Transpose, which makes it simple to make mid-song key modulations and mode (major, minor, etc.) changes while still playing the lit pads. I demonstrate it in this video:

Videos: Fontaine Burnett

Here are two videos from one of my favorite LinnStrument players, Fontaine Burnette, who possesses high skill in two-handed piano-style play. These videos aren't new, but will be new to recent LinnStrument owners. I enjoy his jazz piano style, and enjoy watching his chord voicings and technique, which he calls "the 8 fingered hand". The first video is called "Defenseless":

And this one is called "Dry Heat":

Click here to see more of his Fontaine's LinnStrument videos. And click here to see his two tutorials on LinnStrument playing called "Fontaine's Fingerfood", including one on his "eight fingered hand" technique.

Learning Expressive Gestures

Learning to play skilled expressive touch gestures takes time and practice, either on LinnStrument or any acoustic instrument. To help, here are two videos I've created on this topic in past but which recent LinnStrument players may not have seen.

First. here's an oldie but a goodie, "Playing Expressive Gestures on LinnStrument", which demonstrates specific gestures that are common on violin, sax, overdriven blues guitar and slide guitar, pedal steel guitar, blues harmonica, and also applying such gestures to synthesis:

Next, here's a more recent video called "Tips for developing expressive control on LinnStrument", which focuses on developing subtle three-dimensional touch control for soloing:

Skilled Videos Wanted

If you're a skilled LinnStrument player, please make an impressive video that I can feature in a future newsletter. I'm mainly interested in videos such as those in my newsletter or three "LinnStrumentalists" compilations, performances that demonstrate musical skill in expressive touch control, solo play or two-handed piano-style play, and which clearly feature LinnStrument.

Next Zoom Call

The next "All things LinnStrument" Zoom call is this Tuesday May 5th at 10 am California time. All are welcome-- LinnStrument owners and those interested in LinnStrument. I'm happy to answer questions from potential buyers or newbies, and interesting discussions often ensue between owners about tips, techniques, specific synths, or editing the source code.

To get the Zoom meeting link, click here or click "Monthly Zoom call with Roger" from the LinnStrument Support page. I hope you can join the meeting, if not this one then on any future first Tuesday of the month at 10 am California time.

Note: The only way you got this newsletter is if you intentionally opted in to my monthly email newsletter list.
