A Note From Our Principal
Dear Whitesburg Families,

I continue to be impressed with the amount of support that our community and families provide our students in so many different areas. With that being shared, our school volleyball and football teams are off to a great start with our volleyball team winning all but one match so far and our football team being undefeated! This success is partly due to the strong support from our Whitesburg Band and Whitesburg Cheerleaders as they continue to encourage.

On Monday, September 17, we have a big rivalry game with Challenger Middle at Milton Frank Stadium. We want to fill the stands with a lot of orange and blue! The game begins at 6:30 pm, and the Grissom Tiger Marching Band will be at the game so you know it will be an exciting time for our students to cheer our team on toward another Whitesburg victory!

Thank you again for the daily efforts that you make to help ensure that your child is prepared to have a successful day at school. Their success does not happen by accident!

Sincerely,
Bradley A. Scott, Ed.D

Attendance Awareness Month
There’s no better time than the beginning of the school year to remind and encourage students to be in school on time, every day. September is Alabama Attendance Awareness Month, in support of the national campaign and work seen in schools all over the state. Millions of hours of instruction and learning are missed every year due to absences.

Chronic absenteeism is defined as missing 15 days of school for any reason. Poor attendance can start as early as kindergarten and continue to impact achievement through high school. Research indicates that attendance is a major indicator for students eventually dropping out of school.

Please click the link to Huntsville Cit School's attendance policy for additional information.

Parents, you may email pictures of your doctor's excuse or parent note to  kimberly.watkins@hsv-k12.org  to ensure that the note reaches the office in a timely manner.

New Athletic Event Bag Procedures
Huntsville City Schools is implementing new restrictions on the types of bags that will be allowed inside football stadiums, athletic fields, and gymnasiums for HCS hosted athletic events. The purpose is to provide enhanced security in the interest of improved safety for all attendees and participants.
The measures started September 4, 2018.

Prohibited Bags
This procedure pertains to bags and is not an all-inclusive list of items that are prohibited from HCS facilities. Bags that are prohibited include but are not limited to:
  • purses larger than a clutch bag, briefcases, backpacks, cinch bags, and fanny packs that are not clear and/or exceed the size restriction
  • luggage of any kind
  • computer bags/cases
  • camera bags/cases
  • binocular bags/cases
  • any bag larger than the permissible size

Permitted Bags
Individuals are encouraged not to bring any types of bags inside HCS facilities during athletic events. However, the following types of bags are permitted:
  • Bags that are clear plastic, vinyl or PVC and do not exceed 12" x 6" x 12";
  • One-gallon clear plastic freezer bags (Ziploc bag or similar); and
  • Small clutch bags, with or without a handle or strap, that do not exceed 4.5" x 6.5" (approximately the size of a hand).
  • Exceptions will be made for medically necessary items after proper inspection at a designated gate.

The public will still be allowed to carry items such as binoculars and cameras inside stadiums, athletic fields, and gymnasiums in a permissible clear bag. Individuals may bring one large clear bag - either a one-gallon Ziploc style bag or the 12" x 6" x 12" clear bag - plus a small clutch that does not exceed 4.5" x 6.5". The small clutch allows privacy for small personal items and is easily searched.

Blankets are allowed during inclement weather; but must be thrown over the shoulder or arm.

Individuals with proper credentials from Huntsville City Schools or a recognized media organization may be granted an exemption to bags that do not meet the guidelines. Bags will still be searched prior to entry, and only bags that pass inspection will be allowed into Huntsville City Schools facilities.
