A Word from our Principal
Dear Parents,
This school year left us with many things to be proud of and brag about as we begin looking ahead to the 2018-19 school year.
* Our students demonstrated growth on both our STAR scores (Grades K-8) as well as our SCANTRON scores (Grades 3-8) for both reading and mathematics.
* Our PTA secured a National PTA STEM grant that was recognized on both a State and National level, and our PTA continues to grow and gain momentum.
* Our Math Teams had multiple top three finishes in math competitions.
* Our school choirs received Superior ratings with distinction at multiple competitions, and our band had a phenomenal year as well.
* Our Greenpower race teams at both the elementary and middle school levels continue to compete and shine in multiple races as they finished with another great year.

We hope everyone has a great summer and are looking forward to the 2018-2019 school year.

Summer Reading Lists and Assignments
Additional reading is required for students enrolled in Honors Courses.
Grade 6: Where the Red Fern Grows by Wilson Rawls
Grade 7: A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle
Grade 8: The Looking Glass Wars by Frank Beddor

Students will be required to complete a Book Talk and turn in no later than
Friday, August 17, 2018.

"Book Talks" will be recorded as an “In-Class” assignment counting as 40% of the student’s grade for the 1st nine-week grading period

Hook your audience!
Read a quote from the book, ask a question of your audience, introduce the main character, vividly set the scene,
or do a combination of a few of these techniques.
Make sure to also give the title and author of the book.
In a paragraph or two, summarize the plot of the book.
Be sure that your summary introduces the main character, identifies the problem, and leads us toward the solution--without giving away the ending!
Share your opinion!
How did you feel about the book?
What did you think of the author?
Would you recommend it to others?
What would you rate it?
Entice your audience!
Ask a rhetorical question, read a quote from the book, use a cliffhanger, or do a combination of these techniques.
Remember, your book talk should flow nicely, like a commercial.
It should not be a giant list answering these questions!
