Client a realtor stated to a potential tenant family that the landlord prefers to lease the apartment to single or a couple without children. Potential tenant filed the complaint for housing discrimination with Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination (MCAD). We acknowledge the inappropriateness of the statements. The case was successfully settled by MCAD mediation without any monetary damage. The realtor and landlord agree to attend anti housing discrimination classes, such that they will treat all tenant candidates equally.

Our client company imports lab equipment. The US Customs and Boarder Protection (CBP) assessed a substantial damage. The reason is that client failed to provide the imported equipment for inspection. In fact, client's customs agent did not notify client to comply with this inspection request promptly. Client requested relief, but was rejected by CBP. Our office examined the CBP rules, appealed damage mitigation based on a ground CBP did not apply. CBP agreed to reduce the damage to only 10% of the initial assessment.

An employee for a biotechnology company client refuses to return certain valuable equipment to the employer after being terminated. We issued a cease and desist letter. The employee immediately delivered the equipment to the employer.
