March 10, 2021
Zion’s School mission is “Teaching Christ and Serving Families.” The school shares Christ by teaching students about Christ and changes lives by serving the school families.

Our vision is that all students will experience God’s love and forgiveness and learn to show that same forgiveness to others. Students will be safe, responsible, and respectful to themselves and others, and achieve academically to the best of their ability.

Lutheran School Ministries has chosen Lead A Child for the 2020-2021 Hearts for Jesus unified mission project.

Lead a Child is an independent Lutheran Mission Agency, dedicated to sharing the Good News of Jesus’ love to children through Christian education in third world countries.

We gather gifts and donations from supporters and use the funds to provide scholarships, school registration, and supplies for children so that they can attend Lutheran schools and afterschool programs. We also provide professional development for leaders and teachers at our sites, with an emphasis on effective ways to share the Gospel and teach Biblical truths to children.

Whether our students experience modern classrooms with computers and desks or are surrounded by woven grass walls, they are hearing about a Heavenly Father who loves them, A Son who has redeemed them from sin, death, and the devil, and a Spirit who fills their hearts with hope and salvation.

Together, we can achieve our Hearts for Jesus' goal of providing scholarships and school supplies for third-world children to attend Lutheran school and after-school programs.

MESSAGE FROM ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PRINCIPAL
Dear Zion Families,

Next week, we have our WASC Accreditation Mid-Cycle Progress visit. This
will be a one-day virtual visitation on March 16th. The purpose of a
mid-cycle visit is to review the progress Zion has made on the identified
school needs and identified student learner needs in our Action Plan and
to determine the impact on student learning and the continuous
improvement initiatives since the previous full self-study in 2018. If you
would like more information or have any questions, please contact Mrs.
MESSAGE FROM ECEC DIRECTOR
“All children need a laptop. Not a computer, but a human laptop... Moms, Dads, Grannies and Grandpas, Aunts, Uncles – someone to hold them, read to them, teach them... Loved ones who will embrace them and pass on the experience, rituals, and knowledge of a hundred previous generations... Loved ones who will pass their expectations of them, their hopes, and their dreams.” Colin Powell
This is a perfect example of why God made laps! Laps are for children to crawl up on and be loved. Laps are the best place to read a story. March is known as the reading month – we celebrate Dr. Seuss’s birthday and Read Across America. Here at Zion ECEC, we read as often as we can to your children. The children LOVE to hear the stories, especially from the Bible! Here are some more noteworthy quotes about the importance of reading:

“If you want your children to be intelligent, read them fairy tales. If you want them to be more intelligent, read them more fairy tales.” Albert Einstein
“The best time to start reading aloud to a baby is the day it is born.” Mem Fox, author
“Read, read, read, read, and, when you think your lips are going to fall off, read one more!” Bev Bos, Early Childhood Advocate

HAPPY READING!!!!

CHURCH NEWS UPDATE
JOIN THE CHALLENGE
DO YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES TO FOLLOW JESUS?
The Red Letter Challenge is a 40-Day discipleship challenge.
In the Red Letter Challenge, you will be introduced,
through the words of Jesus, to the five main principles
of being a disciple.

If you are tired of just checking religious boxes,
if you know that you were made for something more,
and if you want to make a greater difference in this world,
the Red Letter Challenge is for you!

WHO IS THE RED LETTER CHALLENGE FOR?
This Challenge is for anybody and everybody. Young and old.
Men and women. Church and unchurched. New Christian, life-long Christian,
non-Christian. It's for anybody who's looking for something more in life.
Join us this Sunday, March 14th
as Pastor Tim shares on SERVING - Week 3 - of:
The Red Letter Challenge

We are planning for a Single Sunday Service inside the Sanctuary at 9:30 am. We will continue to provide plenty of space to spread out for social distancing.

We encourage you to invite your family and friends, and while wearing your mask, join your brothers and sisters in Christ for a responsible social distance worship experience!

Although we encourage you to join us in person, if you are unable to join us in person, we encourage you to watch the Facebook Live streaming of our service at 9:30 AM. Our weekly Zion Buzz newsletter will have a copy of the order of service with the words to the liturgy, scriptures, songs, and prayers so that you can follow along with us in worship.

Zion serves Communion on the 1st & 3rd Sunday of the month at our in-person service. However, we also remain available to provide “touchless” communion to you at your home. Simply request a kit through the church office or click here to sign up for an @Home Communion Kit.

We are continuing to take reservations (RSVP) for the time being so that we can ensure the health and safety of all who are attending. Let us know you're coming by registering yourself and your family. Please note, that an RSVP is required by all people including children.

Life is full of challenges!  Many of them life just throws at us and we see how we will fair through them.  2020 for example was full of challenges we didn’t get to choose.  2021 seems to be more of the same.  But there are many other challenges we get to choose – or friends choose for us by inviting us on social media; the ice bucket challenge, the no sugar challenge, the let a website choose your personality challenge, the math pun challenge, the list goes on and on.  Some are helpful or at least benefit a good cause – others just waste your time!

But what if you could choose a challenge that would better prepare you for the challenges you don’t get to choose?  The Red Letter Challenge is just that.  It’s a challenge to join our church in READING and DOING the words of Jesus for 40 days. If you know that you were made for something more, if you want to grow closer to Jesus, and if you want to make a greater difference in this world, the Red Letter Challenge is for you!  Even if you still are not sure about Jesus, reading his own words for 40 days is a great way to get to know Him.

You may start down the Red Letter Challenge path, but be warned, along the way Jesus is going to challenge you through His own words to Be, Forgive, Serve, Give, and Go in His Name.  Do you have what it takes to follow Jesus? Let’s find out together in our new series and small groups.
