Dear Zion Families,
Thank you for helping to make our drop-off and pick-up run so smoothly! With many things changing from day-to-day, we need to make another change… The Anaheim Public Works will be doing construction work on Cypress Street from September 10th-25th.

Due to this, parents will not be able to park on Cypress Street. We will move the drop-off/pick-up area for 1st and 2nd grade to the gate between ECEC and the school playground. Park in the campus parking lot near the Sanctuary. Walk down the hallway straight to the gate.

The 5th/6th grade drop-off/pick-up area will be at the big rolling gate past the School Age Care building. Park near the gym and walk down the parking lot to the rolling gate. Signs will be posted for these two new drop-off/pick-up areas. Kindergarten, 3rd grade, and 4th grade will be at their same gates (these do not change).

This change will only be in effect from September 10th-25th. We will go back to our original drop-off/pick-up areas on September 28th.

Thank you for your flexibility as we navigate through the many obstacles that arise.

  • Thanks for our Zion students and their families.
  • For our Jr. High to join us on campus soon.
  • For Zion Families and Staff to stay healthy.
  • Prayers for healing for Jade (ECEC student) who was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
We already have 4 weeks of the 2020-2021 school year under our belts. Preschool through the Sixth Grades are in their proper classrooms (with some opting to continue remote learning), being taught by hardworking, caring, and somewhat exhausted Christian teachers. While the Seventh and Eighth Grade students are still learning remotely, given the current trends, they could be back on campus before the end of this month.
Zion has been calm and orderly and, in a sense, predictable. Teachers and staff are diligently following all health and safety protocols and we are getting used to this new normal. We’ve met the challenges and pressed forward.
How were we able to accomplish this? God’s Hand has clearly been at work. Because of the power of the Almighty, working with and through the faculty and staff at Zion Lutheran School, we have risen to the challenge. God continues to lead us through the challenges that the church and school has faced – and continues facing today.
All glory goes to Him.
God is good. God is powerful.

Educa is a secure web-based portfolio system specifically designed for early childhood education teachers and parents. Online e-portfolios allow you to see your child’s activities at any time. Teachers share photos, videos, stories and reflections in real time. Parents can read and respond to posts and upload their own photos. You may access Educa by computer or via the Educa Touch Apple or Andriod phone app.
If you have not already returned the permission slip, please do so as soon as possible. The teachers are anxious to get started. Once you have returned the permission slip, you will receive an invitation to join Educa. Each time something is posted on your child’s page you will be notified. If you need another permission slip, please let Mrs. Lori or your child’s teacher know.

ECEC Lesson Plans

Each Friday, you will receive a copy of the teacher lesson plans for your child’s classroom. This was an observation noted from our Zoom Back to School Night. Before COVID, the lesson plans were posted outside the classroom door and parents could view anytime. Now that adults are not allowed in the building, they could no longer check the plans.
If there is any other form of communication you wish to receive, please email me at We want to keep the road of communication open at all times.

Zion Families,

We would like to thank all the families who participated in the Scrip program this last year. You benefited Zion as a whole and received a tuition rebate as well (when you signed up for the rebate program.) We invite all families to purchase Scrip and enjoy the benefits.

Scrip means “substitute money”. When you purchase Scrip, you are purchasing negotiable gift certificates and prepaid cards that are used just like cash.

To get started use the attached Scrip order form and start ordering Scrip today and accumulate your rebate. Just drop your order with payment attached in any tuition box located in the School office, SAC lobby, ECEC office or Church office. Make checks payable to “Zion Scrip” and mark rebate designation. If no designation is marked, then it will be applied to Zion's general fund. You may also purchase Scrip on Sunday mornings between church services. We are also participating in the Scrip Now program. Families will be able to purchase scrip online. Attached is the flyer that explains this program, how it works, and Zion's enrollment code. Shop-with Scrip Now offers you to use a credit card to purchase your scrip.

Create the Scrip habit by purchasing Scrip weekly for gas and groceries. One of the great things about Scrip is that it does not cost you one penny more than you normally spend on regular purchases! Remember the Scrip program when making big purchases, like flooring, paint, furniture, appliances and home repairs. You can also have your family, friends and co-workers purchase Scrip.  Use Scrip for birthday, anniversary and Christmas gifts. Join the Scrip program today!

Thank you for your support!!

Dear Parents,

The Orange County Children’s Book Festival, which has changed its 17th annual event from an “in-person” to a “virtual” book festival, started on Monday, Sept. 14, 2020.
The Virtual Orange County Children’s Book Festival will have three parts: the first is the “STORY & ACTIVITY TIME”. Every day five videos, featuring authors and illustrators sharing their work, will be posted on the Festival’s website. And, each day thereafter, five more NEW videos will be added for you to enjoy. Families and children will still be able go back and watch all the previous videos as many times as they wish. These daily entertaining videos will continue until Friday, Sept. 25, 2020.
To help choose “just right” books for multiple ages of children, each video is identified by their age-appropriate reading level. For example, a picture book is identified as PIC. Early Reader is ER and so on. Our authors, illustrators, and literary experiences have been endorsed by local educators, National Board Certified Teachers, Montessori teachers, and global educators as a way to support kids in choosing books to read that interest them.
Saturday, September 26 is the final day of the Orange County Children’s Book Festival and it’s called “RED CARPET TIME”. This is a two-session virtual event featuring a 90-minute morning session and a 90-minute afternoon session. You won’t want to miss our exciting “Red Carpet Time”! The impressive list of celebrities and notable, New York Times bestselling authors includes authors such as Jeff Kinney, author of the Diary of A Wimpy Kid series, and top-rated Wharton professor Adam Grant, who will co-present with actress Kristen Bell. We also have two celebrity chefs teaching kids to cook and Disney studio animators teaching to draw. And, more!
Co-founder Pat Burns says; “With 2.0 online classrooms the norm, we wanted to provide students an up-close opportunity to bond with their favorite authors and illustrators, from their homes, and discover many new books, too. This will be a fun, literacy enriching experience for all!”
Be sure to REGISTER. It’s FREE! We encourage you to register right away and join the hundreds of other book loving families.
And, for the complete schedule visit the Festival’s eGuide found on our website.

Update from our Pastoral Call Committee
Dear Brother & Sisters of Zion Anaheim -
Over the last several months the Call Committee here at Zion has been working tirelessly to identify a second round of pastoral candidates after COVID played havoc with our first round of prospects earlier this summer. I am excited to share that we have identified 3 outstanding pastors and have met with all of them at least once.
Next week, we are moving forward with a second round of formal interviews with each candidate to determine who God is leading to serve here at Zion. While each of these prospects would bring a unique perspective and skill set, we are confident that any one of them would be an amazing addition to the Zion family and our various ministries. Our hope is to have our final selection ready to present to the Board and the congregation for approval by no later than the end of September. As we continue to move forward in faith, I ask that now more than ever… you keep the committee and the process in your prayers. We know that God has amazing plans for Zion and we are excited to see those beginning to unfold.

Plan to join us this Sunday for Worship & Communion!

We will continue to worship outside on the lawn in front of the sanctuary in one service at 9:30 AM. Combining some of the traditional liturgy with praise songs and hymns; we encourage you to invite your family and friends, bring your lawn chair (chairs are available) & blankets, and while wearing your mask, join your brothers and sisters in Christ in responsible social distance outside worship!
We are have incorporated communion on the 1st & 3rd Sunday of the month at our in person service. Zion also remains available to provide “touchless” communion to you at your home. Simply request a kit through the church office or click here to sign up for an @Home Communion Kit.

As we are in the heat of summer, please note, that we are adjusting our service time slightly to allow everyone to enjoy this outdoor service. So we will be having a single service at 9:30 AM beginning this Sunday, that has been condensed to approximately 45 minutes to one hour.

Although we encourage you to join us on the lawn, if you are unable to join us in person, we encourage you to join the FaceBook Live streaming of the service at 9:30 AM. Our weekly Zion Buzz newsletter will have a copy of the service bulletin with the words to the liturgy, scriptures, songs and prayers so that you can join us in lifting your hearts and voices in worship.

We are continuing to take reservations (RSVP) for the time being so that we can ensure the health and safety of all who are attending. Let us know you're coming by registering yourself and your family. Please note, that an RSVP is required by all people including children.
