In the midst of this new experience of online schooling put together by our wonderful teachers and staff, we want to make sure we have the chance to say THANK YOU during Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week!
Since we can't do it in person, here's what what you can do...

  • Take pictures or videos of your kids holding signs or cards of appreciation directed towards teacher(s) or staff.
  • Email them to staff/teacher during the week of May 4-8
Jelly Bean Art

It is time for the Jelly Bean Art Contest. Families, students and staff usually vote during the Curriculum Fair. With Covid-19 stay at home guideline the Curriculum fair did not take place. The students did work hard to complete their art work and we want you all to see the creativity of our 8th grade students. Please take a moment to view and vote for your favorite Jelly Bean Art. Voting will be open until Wednesday, May 6, 2020.
ECEC Distance Learning

Distance Learning started on Monday. Was great fun to see the 2 year old class meet with Miss Jackie! This will be provided for free to all our ECEC students who would like to participate. The teachers have been missing your child/ren and are eager to have some face-to-face time with them. Please be patient as we are all new at this and I am sure many areas will need tweaking. If you haven't signed up yet email Mrs Knapp.

Kudos to our Teachers
Zion teachers have been attending training sessions with Beyond Technology to gather more ideas on how to provide high-quality remote learning experiences. They began by completing a questionnaire to identify what is already being done, and the trainer shared that the results of that questionnaire showed that our teachers were already doing an excellent job compared to many other schools they are working with. Great job, Zion teachers!
The 4th Grade prepared Science Experiments for the Curriculum Fair that was scheduled for March 17th. In the next few Lion's Tale we will continue to share with you some of the experiments Zion 4th Graders completed!
Enjoy the science and may we all continue to ask questions about the world around us.

Dear Brothers & Sisters of Zion,

In light of the current COVID-19 crisis, one may have assumed that the Pastoral Call process at Zion may have been put on the backburner or had at least got bumped down the priority list for the LCMS Pacific Southwest Dist. (PSWD). In a call with Dist. Pres. Gibson last week, we were pleased to learn that things have actually been moving forward at a proper clip.

At this point, we actually have 12 candidates to review!  These include a combination of names submitted by Zion as well as a handful that were recommended by the PSWD. There were an additional five names that had been recommended or requested that were listed as "Unavailable" for a variety of reasons.

The Call Comm. will now begin phase 2 of the process by reviewing the reports submitted by the Dist. on each candidate to ascertain if they are a "Fit" for what we are looking for and need here at Zion. However, a word of advice & caution was offered by President Gibson as we move forward. He suggested... "Do your homework on these candidates, but wait to make a decision or place a Call as any candidate who would be willing to leave their congregation during these trying times is not the right fit for Zion." We believe this is sage advice and will act accordingly.

Thank you for your continued support and prayers throughout this entire process. I realize that while it may seem like we keep running into roadblocks (Thanks COVID!), I also know that the Lord has a plan and timeline for us at Zion. Now we are one step closer to seeing what that looks like! If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask a member of the Call Committee.

Eron Jacobson
