Math fact fluency never stops being important.  Speed is not the answer, but FLUENCY is. If your student still stumbles over math facts, open their Multiplication Table in their student planner (page 124) and highlight all of the facts they DO know.  Then just concentrate on the facts that they don’t know. Particularly tricky ones are 4’s, 6’s, 7’s, and 9’s. Use some of these “math hacks” to help:

https://tinyurl.com/yyh5crpe YouTube video worth watching and trying each concept on your own.  Why does the lattice method work in math? What are you adding together?  (Hint: think about place values!) Etc.

National Hispanic Heritage Month starts NOW!
This month we will invest some time learning about the contributions of Hispanic Americans to our overall society and to our local community and Zion Family.  Please send accounts of your family or friends who have been a blessing to Anaheim, Orange County, California, the USA, or our Zion Family. We will post these on Facebook, so photos and brief accounts would be great.  We know you have these stories, Lions, so share on! Thanks.

Prayers:  Prayers for our Middle School Teachers and their students:  Mrs. Tordill who is returned to us after a year away, Miss Stewart, and Mrs. Benne.  Give these teachers ears and eyes for their students. Protect their students’ hearts at this fun, yet challenging time of their lives.

Lego Star Wars Family Night
Thank you to all who attended and volunteered to make LEGO Star Wars Night an event to remember! This was our PTSL kickoff event of the school year and the gym was full of LEGOS, over 100 guest and visitors from a galaxy far far away! Play-Well TEKnologies provided us a night of creativity with motorized battle tracks, pullback motor racetracks, building the best structure in the Ewok city and much more. Thank you to Clayton Prescott and his friends of the “The 501 st  Legion” for visiting Zion Lutheran. Thank you to the Calvillo family for providing the taco cart and to a friend of the church for donating all the Star Wars themed raffle prizes. Our students had a great experience!

Correction: We posted the incorrect troop # in last weeks Lion's Tale.
We would like to thank Troop #120 for participating in the Patriot Day Ceremony.
Patriot Day!
Today we gathered to thank God for our country, our founding principles, and the work of those who protect and serve us. We remember with sadness, the evil intent of others to hurt our people on our country’s soil. We remember that we each can serve as a “first responder” with the Gospel to those who grieve and those who need comfort for any reason. Special thanks to Zion Cub Scout Pack 120 who raised our flags and then led us in the pledges. We thank our Eighth Graders who read Bible passages appropriate to the day. And we thank our Braille Ministry members, parents/families, and community members who joined us for our special event. Blessings to you! Thank you for your kindness to each other and for honoring those who serve others.
Tomorrow is Picture Retake Day!
Student may wear free dress only if they will be taking retake pictures..

Did you receive your Proof?
All proofs are officially online and emails have been sent out from Picture Day. If for any reason you did not print did not give your email address or it was illegible on the order form, you will not receive an email proof. In order to make sure Make-Up Day is attended by anyone that needs to take a make-up picture,
if you did not receive a proof via email they can do two things:
1.      Check their email junk/spam folder. If it is not there then,
2.      Email  support@ultimateexposures.com   with your name, your student's name, and your email address and they will send proofs right away.

Thanks so much!

Volunteers Needed

Consider joining the Children’s Ministry Sunday School Team. We are looking for adult volunteers on Sundays for the 10 am worship service, to teach the Children’s Message followed by a craft/snack. The Children’s message will be pre-made along with all the snacks or crafts needed. All you do is walk the children from the church during the Sermon to another room, read the message and follow the directions for the craft/snack, make sure the room is cleaned up and then walk the children back to Church to sit with their parents. All of this will be about 15-20 minutes of your time and you will receive a one hour credit of parent participation time. We encourage you to sign up with a friend as working in a team is more fun. You may read the message ahead of time through email or picking up a copy in the school office. You may sign up for just one Sunday during the year or you can be on a rotation of once a month for example such as the second Sunday of each month.
If you would like additional parent hours but prefer to work at home, we are looking for someone to be in charge of making a schedule the volunteers for each month and giving a weekly reminder to the volunteers of their upcoming commitment. Write in your email or phone number and Mrs. Tordil will contact you if you are interested. Great way to earn parent hours, receive 1 hour for 20 minutes of FUN with the kids! For more information Email Mrs. Tordil or call at 714-535-3600 ext. 410
