Principals' Welcome
We are moving right along and love seeing everyone, even if it’s on Zoom. While we are all thinkers and we are striving to find balance, let’s not forget how far we have come. We have multiple accomplishments to celebrate!

With this said, we want to brag on our teaching staff that continue to seek out learning opportunities to enhance student learning, who have all learned new tools for their instructional practices, and smile through the struggle! Our Meridian family is working together, powering through.

Just today in team meetings, teachers were sharing strategies and resources with one another. They were also bragging on students. Students are our joy, the reason we stay in education. And here at Meridian, we have excellent students. We have seen many principled students signing in to Zoom classes on their own and doing incredible work during breakout sessions. And parents, you too have been incredible: supporting students, reaching out with questions, participating in our surveys, and contributing through committee work.

Here is a little something trending on Twitter (source unknown) for the times when we don’t feel so confident:

Affirmations as we continue in distance learning...

The best I can do is my best.
How human of me to feel nervous about trying something new.
I will give myself the same grace I give others.
I may not be able to control this situation, but I have control over my attitude.
This is temporary.
I can do difficult things.
I don’t have to have it all figured out to move forward.
I will make mistakes, and that is okay.

Lions are in this together! Let's give ourselves and others grace!
Secondary Curriculum Open House Night Postponed
The Middle and High School Open House Curriculum Nights has been postponed until after Labor Day. In the past, parents have visited the school on Open House Curriculum night, walked their student(s) schedule, and sat in on brief presentations from each teacher. We are adapting this to a virtual format this year. Please be looking for more information on this in next week’s edition of the Lions Share.
Athletics Corner
Parents, if you have 7th-12th grade students who are interested in participating in Meridian Athletics this year, please complete and submit this survey by Sunday, August 23, in order to have your feedback considered in the planning process.
Meridian Proud Moment: Dr. Christina Bowers
Meridian Science Department Co-chair & IB Diploma Program Biology teacher Dr. Christina Bowers has been selected for the HHMI BioInteractive Academy. This highly selective program selects 30 educators to join a three year professional development academy aimed at developing them as “ambassadors” in order “to spread inclusive and equitable science teaching practices”.

Congratulations Dr. Bowers!
Ninth Grade Freshman Survey
Attention 9th grade parents: please ensure that your student has filled out the Freshman Survey that was posted on ManageBac by Carrie Proctor, our HS counselor. This survey is the virtual version of the index card she has used in the past during her initial advisory visits, which she will be starting next week and is her opportunity to get to know a little bit about the Class of 2024.

About 30% of the class has completed it so far. Please ask your student to take 5 minutes as this form helps with the scheduling of 1:1 Freshman Conferences starting in September. Freshman Survey for Students to Complete
