I reminded a client last week of the importance of listening. Listening to the other side, what they are saying, how they are saying it, what they are not saying (reading between the lines as some people call it).
Listening is so important in all walks of life. Not just negotiating. Listening at work, in personal life, with family and friends.
|
Listening is a 100% focus skill. Not being distracted, not thinking about what to say next and not having head chatter (talking to yourself about other things that are coming up or dwelling on the past).
Concentrating 100% and being present in the moment.
Dale Carnegie said, "Most people want a good listening to, not a good talking to".
Be interested; not interesting and you will be surprised by what you will learn about people and how you will enhance your negotiating skills in all walks of life.
Remember listen is an anagram of silent. Stay silent with your mouth and your mind while you are giving someone a good listening to!!!!

TONIGHT -
Monday Night Live Internet Radio Show
4th April 2022
Features the Barefoot Mediator
|
TONIGHT - 4th April - Jane Gunn the Barefoot Mediator will update us on some of the intricate mediations she has facilitated and how we can intervene as laypeople.
Jane has recently helped a client of mine role-play and rehearse a mediation.
I cannot underestimate how powerful the rehearsal was for -
1 - Increasing our leverage
2 - Putting our team in the strongest position possible 3 - Understanding where they were coming from
Jane's latest talk is entitled, "How do we survive in today's world of heightened conflict" and I will be asking her about that and many other fascinating current psychological issues in the world of mediation.
Finally, Jane has been quoted saying, "Today the greatest virus in the world is the virus of fear".
We have much to ask Jane about tonight. Do join me at 4.50pm for 5.00pm

Your advice, please
Who and what subject would you like to hear about on Monday Night Live as we move forward into the third year of the programme?
I would like to hear from you and want to listen to your suggestions.
Of course, a warm invitation is easier to handle and more difficult for the interviewee to turn us down.
Would you like more breakouts and if so on what subjects?
What are the Unique Selling Points (USP's) of being interviewed?
1 - With 140 interviews and in our third year, we are well established.
2 - Each interview gets uploaded to YouTube and www.negotiatorspodcast.com,
3 - This gives the interviewee traction and exposure on social media.
AND we have 1,150 YouTube subscribers and a large following on our podcast channel
Let me know, please.

Have a fantastic week, GREAT negotiations and remember, "If you always do, what you have always done, you will always get, what you have always got.
Best wishes

Tip Top Tips from the second anniversary programme of Monday Night Live
All tips specifically aimed at improving your productivity, your results and your confidence
After all don't we all need a confidence booster occasionally?
Tip number one
Choose your language carefully. Choice of words and phrases are very important.
Don’t use fluffy words, filler words (like sheds loads. kind of, sort of……) which devalue the points you are making.
Be sharp and succinct with powerful words. Listen to others and enhance your relationships. Do it or don’t do it, make up your mind!
