Historical Tidbit:
Home Deliveries
Back in the early 1900’s going to the store was not a very common practice. Twice a week the “grocery man” would travel around town in the morning with his horse and wagon, visiting every home, and take orders for the “dry goods” that were needed. It would have been an item that the homeowner could not grow or raise themselves such as flour, coffee, tea, etc. Then that afternoon he would return to each home with their delivery.
There was also a gentleman from Middleboro who came around with his wagon selling meat. He was known as the “Butcher” and usually came once a week. He would have a large draw on the back of the wagon where the meat was kept and would cut what you wanted from the meat he carried that day. He would also take an order if he didn’t have what you wanted.
I remember seeing the “Fish Vendor” come around to my Great Grandmother’s on a Friday morning selling his wares. She would come out to see what he had and make her selection. He would wrap it in white paper and tie it with string.

December 29, marks the last day of Whitman Fire / Rescue administrative assistant’s last day after serving the town of Whitman for over 17 years. Lisa was presented a custom helmet shield and flowers to commemorate her service to the town. Whitman Fire / Rescue wishes you a long and healthy retirement!

The Whitman-Hanson Wrestling Team in the
44th Annual Marshfield Holiday Tournament
|
|
The Whitman-Hanson Wrestling Team was on track at the 44th annual Marshfield Holiday Tournament coming on strong on day two by winning 15 of their last 18 matches and 15 in a row to finish the 37-team competition in 9th place with 127.5 points. W-H's lone Champion was 106-pound Sophomore Charlie Lussier with an impressive 3 pins and a 15-0 tech fall. Charlie is Whitman-Hanson's first Marshfield Holiday Champion in 35 years. Charlie is now 12-0 on the season with 11 pins. |

Sophomore Christian Grimaldi wrestling at 113 pounds finished in 4th place going 4-2 with 3 pins improving his season record to 13-4 with 10 pins. Senior Captain Braden Kain had a great tournament going 6-1 with 3 pins, one major and one decision.
Braden finished in 3rd place in the 138-pound weight class avenging his only loss in the consi-finals. Braden currently leads the team in wins, 17, point 88, and pins with 12. Senior Captain Aidan Guiliani wrestling at 145 pounds finished in 4th place going 5-2 with 3 pins and two decisions. Aiden is now 12-2 on the season with 8 pins. Rounding out the day for the Panthers was Senior Captain Maddox Colclough at 285 pounds. Maddox finished in 4th place going 5-2 with 5 pins. Maddox is now 10-2 on the season with 8 pins.
The Panthers are 3-1 on the season and will be wrestling in a quad meet at North Attleboro on Saturday, January 31 beginning at 10a.
