City of Lakes Rotary Club Supports Literacy Initiatives at PPL
A big thank you to City of Lakes Rotary, who after a book-leveling project at Prosperity Village wanted to know how their members could support literacy activities at PPL through volunteer initiatives. Members exceeded our wildest expectations by building and donating beautiful architect-designed (Otogawa-Anschel and Kodet Architectural Group) Little Free Libraries for Collaborative Village Initiative (CVI) in South Minneapolis and 1220 Morgan in North Minneapolis! The libraries were recently dedicated by Club members, residents, and staff with balloons, treats, and over 20 bags of books. We look forward to watching these tiny libraries build community and encourage lifelong readers in our neighborhoods.
PPL Goes Back to School!

This year was the biggest ever for our school supplies drive for PPL residents; we collected 1,365 filled backpacks and over 12 boxes of supplies! Generous donors (Greater Twin Cities United Way, Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis, MUCR, Zachry Engineering, Simon Says Give, and Board member Sue Perkins and friends) sent PPL participants and residents back to school with the essentials. A highlight of the drive was participating in GTCUW’s “Action Day”: 3,000 volunteers came together to stuff backpacks at Target Field and Jessica Adolph, a 10-year Scholars Program tutor, spoke eloquently about the impact of volunteers in the community and her experience with Youth Development.
