| Mental Health Awareness Month is a reminder that learning and well-being are deeply connected. At Literacy Source, we care about the mental health of our whole community - students, volunteers, staff, and teachers, because people thrive when they feel safe, supported, and valued. "I tried ways to improve my skill over the years, but most of the time
I came away feeling stupid, and I could not learn, until I found
Literacy Source. Not once did I feel like I could not learn."
Shellie, Former student and longtime supporter
As we reflect on our 40th anniversary celebration, we are feeling deeply grateful for this community. Thank you to everyone who joined us, gave generously, shared our story, and helped make the day so meaningful. Together, we have raised $127,500 and counting toward our $150,000 goal.
Throughout the program, we heard story after story that reflected the heart of Literacy Source. From Anne Helmholz’s words about the joy of learning and sharing skills, to Yuanyuan’s reminder that a starting point does not determine an ending point, to Shellie’s powerful reflection on what became possible when she was finally met with support instead of shame, we were reminded of the care, connection, and opportunity that define this community. We also heard it clearly from our student panelists, whose words spoke to what Literacy Source means to so many learners: patience, love, support, and family.
Thank you for being part of this community and celebrating our 4th decade with us. We look forward to continuing the celebration in the months ahead and sharing more stories, memories, and moments that reflect the power of learning and all we have built together.

Student Spotlight: Our 40th Anniversary Luncheon Speakers
The stories shared by Yuanyuan and our student panelists, Hongli, Gloria, and Pablo, offered a powerful picture of what Literacy Source makes possible. They spoke about growing in confidence, using English at work, preparing for new opportunities, helping others, and finding not just a school, but a family. Their experiences reflect our mission in action: providing accessible, high-quality foundational education that opens doors for adults and strengthens families and communities. They also remind us that when learning is rooted in equity, inclusion, collaboration, and care, it can truly change lives.

| Thank you for your generosity and support during GiveBIG. Because of caring community members like you, we raised $3,000 toward our $7,500 goal to help remove barriers to citizenship and support immigrant neighbors on the path to naturalization. We are deeply grateful for every donation, share, and word of encouragement. While GiveBIG has ended, you can still give through our website and help us keep moving toward our goal. | | | |
Backpack/Laptop Bag Drive
We appreciate all the ways you support Literacy Source students, and our backpack/laptop bag drive is one more practical way to help.
