The new school year is already in full swing, with classrooms busier than ever, a clear reminder of the growing need for our classes in the community. But before we look ahead, we want to take a moment to reflect on the incredible impact of last year. In 2024–2025, nearly 1,000 adult learners joined us for over 55,000 hours of instruction in reading, writing, math, and digital literacy, opening doors to employment, citizenship, education, and community connection. Our classrooms—representing over 50 countries—are vibrant spaces where equity, inclusion, and lifelong learning come to life every day.
This year, our students made extraordinary progress. One learner, who has lived in the U.S. for nearly 30 years without being able to read or write, found renewed confidence and is now preparing to transition to college-level classes. Another described finally achieving her dream of becoming a U.S. citizen through our online evening classes, while a lifelong dreamer from China wrote her first essay in English and shared how it sparked confidence and critical thinking. In our Democracy Voucher Program, one student who initially doubted her ability to present in English gained confidence through class activities and community outreach, while another student became a class assistant and used that experience to secure a volunteer role in a local public school, an exciting step toward becoming a paid teaching assistant. And there are so many stories like this—of each life changed in ways both big and small—by the work we do and the perseverance of our students. Each of these stories reflect the power of education to change lives, and the dedication of our teachers, volunteers, and community who make these moments possible.
We are still gathering and analyzing the full impact of this school year, and next month we look forward to sharing more student accomplishments and milestones with you. Thank you for being part of this community of support, celebration, and hope—you make these life-changing transformations possible.
