Community Engagement in Action-Use Your Voice!
The Worcester Public Library is holding public strategic planning sessions to help build the future of the library! Calling all of LVGW students, teachers and volunteers to consider sharing your opinions-let your voice be heard. Public meetings will be held on September 28th @6pm and October 1st at 10am in the Saxe Room.

Students are back for Fall Semester on 9/19/16!
Our 12-week Fall semester kicked off on Monday, September 19th with all classes near capacity and enthusiasm by new and returning students! Within our Beginner and Intermediate Courses, we offer  a wide variety with special topics around Work and Education and new course like our "Reading Your Local Newspaper". This new course will not only advance their ESL proficiency but engage students in learning to become familiar with the community with the Telegram & Gazette newspaper local news, opportunities and more-thank you to the T&G for the weekly donation! 
What's in the Numbers:  FY16 Highlights
  • 600 Students attended 47 ESL Course offerings
  • 150 Volunteer Tutor and Student ESL Matches
  • 5,200 Hours of One-to-One Tutoring for English literacy skills
  • 45 New Volunteer Tutors trained and engaged in our community
  • 3 Eighteen-hour Volunteer Tutor Trainings 

600 Students English language proficiency skills improved for a longterm goal of better outlook on individual and family success in career and economic sufficiency

The Literacy Volunteers of Greater Worcester 2016 Annual Meeting is Monday, October 17th from 6-7:30pm at Worcester State University
Eleven Newly Trained Volunteer Tutors Join LVGW
We are  thrilled to welcome 11 new volunteer tutors who are currently in last week of training! Our new Program Manager, Amy West co-led alongside our previous trainer, Emma Britton to fully prepare our volunteers for their new ESL students. Matches for one-to-one tutoring are made before end of class!

Tutored Student Assessment
Our annual pre-assessment testing for our current tutored students is due by Friday, 9/30/16. We have about 20% of students outstanding and need 100% completion. If tutors are not aware if their students have completed their required assessment pre-testing this year please contact Sheila  click here .

Classroom Supplies for All
 Education has a price but we know the benefits outweigh the cost-please let us know if you 'd like to support ESL adult education with a donation for our needed supplies:
  • "The House on Mango Street" softcover books $7 each
  • Portable language lab headsets are $8 each.  
  • News to Go Weekly ESL Newsprint $36 per subscription annually
  • Teacher and Tutor Resources for our LVGW Office Library-$25
Hundreds of students each year benefit from our ESL courses and one-to-one tutoring-together we make a great difference!
