Beware: The Literary Ghost Walk Returns đź‘»

It’s back and even bigger this year! Join the ghosts of authors past during the second annual Literary Ghost Walk, when strangely substantial spectres haunt the Downtown Bend Library for an evening of fun. Meet the spirits of writers like Eric Carle, Stan Lee, Octavia Butler, Maya Angelou, Emily Dickenson, Francine Pascal, and more—they’re dying to tell you more about their works. But be careful as you walk through the stacks—you never know who you’ll run into (or walk through). Fun for all ages. Thursday, October 24 • 6:30–8:00 p.m. • Downtown Bend Library

Sunriver Library Grand Opening Celebration Rescheduled to September 28

The Grand Opening Celebration for the Sunriver Library has been rescheduled and will take place on Saturday, September 28, from noon to 2:00 p.m. The original Grand Opening Celebration, planned for September 14, was canceled due to area wildfires. Following a ribbon-cutting ceremony at noon, join us inside for live music, a balloon artist, and fun with the GlinWood Fae. The public can also meet artist Judy Hoiness, whose colorful artwork is featured in the new space. Free limited-edition book bags and other library swag will also be given away to visitors.

Frightening Fun All October Long

Prepare for spine-chilling thrills throughout October as we delve into eerie delights, frightful films, and more—there’s something for all ages. Take part in a costume swap, create haunting imagery in a macabre poetry workshop, screen the 1922 classic Nosferatu, and explore American horror films of the 1970s. Get creative with a “charspookerie”-making workshop, sing along to spine-tingling songs with a live band, explore the allure of terror in literature, and just for teens, create “Ceme-terrariums.” Don’t miss out—find the full line-up with dates, times, and locations on our website.

Hispanic Heritage Month

National Hispanic Heritage Month is an annual celebration in the United States that runs from September 15 to October 15. It recognizes the histories, cultures, and contributions of people whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America. Check out one of the amazing new books by Hispanic and Latino authors, or explore the other resources and presentations available from your library. Also, don't miss Pitch Latino Bend, where you can network and join Latino entrepreneurs as they pitch new ventures (October 1).

Check Out the Progress on the Redmond Library

Construction and work on the new Redmond Library wraps up this fall; after that, the fun work begins of moving in shelving, books, furnishings, and more! Once that work is complete, staff can begin learning about the new building and its features. Look for the doors to open to the public this winter. To be the first to know when an opening date is set, sign up for Redmond Library Updates at dpl.pub/newsletters. To see a photo album of the building progress, visit our Flickr page here.
